A 30-car D&RGW Freight Charter, organized by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, has just rounded the apex of the Cumbres Loop and is proceeding up the last two-thirds of a mile toward Cumbres Pass at MP 329.9. With trains this long (and even longer back in the day), it was quite common for the Engineer and Conductor to signal each other as they passed on adjacent tracks, going in opposite directions. The looping section of track just east of Cumbres Pass has had a number of names applied to it over the many years this line has been in place. While it was known to the crews as "Cumbres Loop", or "The Balloon Loop", it has become popularly known in recent times as "Tanglefoot Curve."

This image was captured during an October 2016 photo shoot, organized by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The train is pictured here at Milepost 329.9.

The registration would have no doubt been new on a previous ERF - an EC14 of 1995/6 vintage I guess!

Where Am I In BC?

This was the second time I shot this stair case because the first time it kicked my butt!

In 3 weeks, I've lost 1 stone 5.5 pound!

Cannot believe it! Have been eating healthy (heart you Weight Watchers) and always feel full up. This feels too easy to be true but I'm chuffed.

This “round” rock, for which the City of Round Rock, Texas is named, was a well-known marker on the Chisholm Trail indicating a low-water crossing point on Brush Creek in Central Texas. The Chisholm Trail was one of several major routes along which cattle were driven from south Texas to the railheads in Kansas in the late 1800’s. The rock is located about 200 yards from IH-35, which roughly follows the route of the Chishom Trail through Central Texas. Thousands of people travel it every day without realizing the historical significance of the route they're taking. For more information on Round Rock and the Chisholm Trail, see www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/her03 and www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/ayc02.

"This is the last cowboy song,

the end of a hundred year waltz.

Voices sound sad as they're singing along,

another piece of America's lost.

The Old Chisholm Trail is covered in concrete now

And they truck 'em to market in fifty foot rigs.

They blow by his marker never slowing to read,

Like living and dying was all he did.

This is the last cowboy song..."

~ Excerpts from "The Last Cowboy Song" by Ed Bruce.

The Round Room is home to Jacob Epstein's sculpture of Lucifer. Hard to miss, Lucifer is a striking piece and a fitting entrance to the gallery.

www.clairebenoist.com/ This is were got this idea> I found this right away and picked it. was thinking it will be easy. Boy was I wrong. We used different size and color of kiwi is that was a down fall. I had to put them on a glass with a light between the white fill card and the glass. Then it was hard no to get the yellowing of the light to show. When editing it was difficult, I could not get the colors to match up. The arranging of it was tricky too. What I thought was going to be an easy assignment turned out to be hard and by hard my worst pictures. I'm getting better n what settings to use on the camera.

A tiny carnivorous plant that thrives in Pinhook Bog, Indiana's only true peat bog. The plant is about the size of a quarter, and attracts insects. When an insect lands on a leaf, the leaf curls toward the center of the plant trapping the insect. It can then be digested.

The bog was formed about 15,000 years ago, right after the ice age, and is home to many unusual plant species. It's closed to the general public most of the year, but open a few hours here and there during open house events.

The Round Island Light, also known as the "Old Round Island Point Lighthouse" is a lighthouse located on the west shore of Round Island in the shipping lanes of the Straits of Mackinac, which connect Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It was deemed necessary because the island is a significant hazard to navigation in the straits, and was seen as an effective complement to the other lights in the area. Because of its color scheme and form — red stone base and wood tower — it has been likened to an old-fashioned schoolhouse.

Historical marker reads:

The Round Island Lighthouse, seen south of this site, was completed in 1895. Operating under the auspices of the United States Government, this facility was in continuous use for fifty-two years. It was manned by a crew of three until its beacon was replaced by an automated light in 1924. A sole caretaker occupied and operated the station from 1924 to 1947. Following the construction of a new automatic beacon near the breakwater off the south shore of Mackinac Island, the lighthouse was abandoned The United States Forest Service now supervises the structure which is located in the Hiawatha National Forest. The lighthouse serves as a sentinel for the past, reminding visitors of the often precarious sailing and rich history of the Straits of Mackinac.

Round Island Light is located in Lake Huron, just east of the Straits of Mackinac, between Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas
