Timahoe' from "Teach Mochua' - 'House of Mochua', a saintly man, who founded a monastery there, and died circa 657 A.D. . (Not to be confused with Mochua of Lismore). The tower's doorway is Hiberno-Romanesque, something unique. The building to the right is a former Church of Ireland building, now the village library. Out of the picture, to the left, there are still remains of a 15th century church, all that remains of a number of early churches on the site. The tower, one of the finest in the entire country, was built in the 12th century, and is approx. 30 m high.
Taken during May holiday weekend, while on a two-day trip to Laois and Offaly. Lots to see in those areas.
My daughter found this 2" x 3" creche and bought it for me for Christmas one year since I collected mostly faceless angels but like small nativity scenes in interesting materials as well. This one is mostly clay with the greenery more like tinsel.
This fine tower, built of mica-slate interspersed with granite is about 30 metres high, with an entrance 3.5 metres from the base. The conical roof was rebuilt in 1876 using the original stones. The tower originally had six timber floors, connected by ladders. The four storeys above entrance level are each lit by a small window; while the top storey has four windows facing the cardinal compass points. Round towers, landmarks for approaching visitors, were built as bell towers, but also served on occasion as store-houses and as places of refuge in times of attack.
I love this in New Brighton, with a view over the river Mersey to Liverpool its a great feature.
Its called the Roundhouse, built just before WW2, it was the home of a local pianist and this single room feature connected to the main house once housed his piano.

Stack train 234 rounds the bend in Bellevue as it transitions from the Fostoria District to the Sandusky District.
The Pendleton Round-Up back in the late 70s. Some friends at the tribal cultural center asked me to gather together some prints from those days, they put together a photoshow called "Pictures of Our People." This was a shot they selected. Nobody was exactly sure of the names of these little princesses, but everybody remembered this horse--"that mean little pony." People started laughing when we pulled this print out--"Oh! I remember that 'mean little pony'." To this day, when I see kids packing around their little backpacks with the pretty purple "My Little Pony" logos, I remember this critter from the dark side, the evil twin little pony....
UPDATE!: Jeannine, riding on the rear of "Snoopy" relates this better description of the pony and her memories of those days:
"Snoopy was a little ornery...and the year you took the picture may have been the year when he reared up in the arena and we slid right off his rear end. We used to get a lot of cheers and applause...that was actually a trick that my cousin taught her pony to do (rear up). So, most of the time we did it on purpose...a few times Snoopy got stubborn and did it on his own!
After riding through the parades and the arena during the Round Up, we would go to a stand and get cokes and snow cones and give Snoopy the left overs when we were done. Funny little pony, he was. Full of character, spunk, and drinking coke and eating snow cones with us. Brings a smile just remembering..."

Pakistani Peridot 1.9ct., 7.8x7.8x5.2mm. (Per240) Custom Round.
I used this Paki peridot to test-cut at design for the Syn. Pad sapphire suite earlier in this photostream. I had no particular reason to use peridot except that this rough was just looking at me wondering why it was *still* on my bench.
The mosaic ceiling of Alman Çeşmesi (German Fountain). The fountain stands in Sultanahmet Meydanı (Sultanahmet Square), the site of the ancient Hippodrome, alongside the Sulatanahmet mosque. It was a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany to Sultan Abdülhamit II in 1900 to commemorate the Kaiser's 1898 visit to Istanbul. The fountain was made in Germany, then shipped to Istanbul where it was assembled. The fountain was dedicated on January 27, 1901, the Kaiser's birthday. The gift was part of a continuing effort by Germany to gain access to the oil reserves in the Middle East, then a part of the Ottoman empire.

The famous Kernos of Malia was discovered in the West Wing of the Palace.
This strange object is a round stone vessel 0.90 m. in diameter, with a large hollow in the centre and 34 smaller depressions around it.
You may wonder what it was used for. The place where it was found leads archaeologists to believe that it was a ritual offering vessel used in the rites of first fruits.
The worshippers placed small amounts of the first harvest, mainly seeds and fruit, in the small depressions as an offering to the deity, while the hollow in the centre was filled with liquid for a libation to ensure a good harvest.
My parents decided to celebrate their 25th anniversary by going to Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City.
I've made several shots of this ride during the past few years and was never really happy with any of them, until this year.
I realized what was bothering me in the past was that I did a 30 second exposure which resulted in a large white circular blur.
For this shot, I didn't use a long shutter speed, instead going with something in the 1/10 of a second range. I'm much happier now that I can see the riders, even if they are blurred, which is what I had wanted all along.
