Ross Bridge - Ross, Tasmania - Australia

The sandstone bridge was constructed by convict labour (1836), and is the third oldest bridge still in use in Australia.

This exceptionally rare Arctic visitor was discovered on the Chicago Lakefront by the very sharp-eyed Dan Lory, who quickly got the word out to the Illinois birding community. Hundreds of happy birders from across the Midwest descended on this small beach next to the site of a former steel mill where the bird proceeded to put on an amazing show for hours.

You might remember a while ago I posted a shot of this at Custom Air. Here it is finished. Love how the A-Trailer blends the two colors. May 2017.

Ross Castle in Killarney, Ireland.

Taken with Sony A-6000 (Sony ILCE-6000) and SEL-1018 as RAW. Converted to JPEG with LR 6.

Ross Castle is a 15th-century tower house and keep on the edge of Lough Leane, in Killarney National Park, Ireland.

It is likely that the Irish chieftain O'Donoghue Mór built it in the fifteenth century.

Ross in Tasmania's Midlands was a British Army garrison town from the time of its founding 1811. There was a male convict prison which housed the workers for all the building projects in the area, and also a female prison (called interestingly enough, "The Female Factory"). We'll come to those in due course. The Redcoats were responsible for maintaining the security and discipline in these towns.

If you enlarge this photograph you should be able to read the list of regiments stationed here until 1854. This particular barracks building dates from around 1829. In 1831 there was one officer, one sergeant and eighteen men stationed at Ross.

Just a quick selfie as I headed over the water to meet Sarah recently. It's a bit shaky as I'm on a train, crossing the Forth Bridge. Out the window you can see its partner, the Forth Road Bridge, and the new kid, the Queensferry Crossing.

This red business dress will work well. It actually matches my nail colour!

A series of images taken of the Ross Bridge in Tasmania, morning and evening shots. Love this little village and it's bridge. Not part of our recent tour.

We decided to see if there was anywhere we could take Lina for lunch, while we were in Ross-on-Wye. I poked my head inside Jacqueline's Cafe, and after asking how big she was, she agreed Lina could come in with us! It's fine sitting outside for a meal on a nice day, but Lina is less distracted when we're indoors, as long as we have some treats to offer!

You can see the hole in Lina's ear in this shot - not sure why she has a pierced ear - can only guess she was tagged. Poor thing - that must have hurt!

A happy solstice to all my friends, whether it's summer or winter for you.

It's midsummer for me and it's another lovely hot day. In this heat, nothing is better than a light, loose, floaty dress which drapes from the bust line for a deliciously cool outfit.

Unfortunately I have to wear the dress.

Every meeting at Sparkle was special, but one was definitely the most amusing because it was a great surprise. No, not a surprise for me, but for a friend, whose name is withheld to spare her blushes. Let's call her Jane.

I saw Jane across a bar and went over. As I arrived she introduced herself, "Hello, I'm Jane."

"I know." I said, "We met last weekend."

Jane looked puzzled so I added, "I bought you a drink; you bought me one."

Jane was totally disbelieving and, before I could say more, another friend whispered in her ear. I don't know exactly what was said, but Jane performed a classic double take. Utterly astonished, she looked me up and down, studied my face closely, then smiled and said, "Good disguise!"

Is this a Ross's Goose?

Taken today in Laporte, Hubbard County, Minnesota, USA

A Ross's goose floats gracefully on rippling water. The bird's red beak and eyes add a striking contrast to its snowy feathers!!!
