Unable to sleep, I walk the streets of the old harbor at night. I have always felt drawn to these dark waters, as if there was some distant, hypnotizing force constantly pulling on my soul from beneath the waves. The allure of this voiceless siren is so very strong, I can not help but obey their command to come join them. Yet I have hidden in my subconscious the darkest terror of what I may find waiting for me at the source of this enchanting call.
A few days ago the bays and coves on the NE Avalon Peninsula of NL were blocked with pack ice. Now a strong westerly wind and tidal movements have moved most of this ice offshore again.

It's like there's never truly a moment of silence. There is constant motion all the time. This picture is a representation of the constant restlessness. The big picture may seem calm, but in the reality there's always something in motion.
Titled "How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter?", this series is made up of ten sets of image and text. Each set expresses the 'moment' in which I explore a place in a photograph and then two written descriptions: one by me, considering my mental health, thoughts and feelings, and one by (best friend and accompanying adventurer) Michael with his version of events. The series tracks how photography has changed my interactions with the world, from being isolated to being able to get out and explore.
You can see a few examples of how it was presented here:
Tim van Zundert - How long had I been gone?
If inhabiting the world at night taught me that I could stand in the middle of roads at a whim, why not go to places you just shouldn't? Places that are closed off to the public after dark aren't necessarily closed to those who find their way in. At Cowdray Ruins, we wandered the grounds as if we had every right to be there.

We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight, and yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home
Ooh
Ooh-ooh
Ooh
Ooh-ooh
My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find, and yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can′t be my own
I'd feel better dead
Ooh
Ooh-ooh
Ooh
Ooh-ooh
A tear in my brain
Allows the voices in
They wanna push you off the path
With their frequency wires
And you can do no wrong
In my eyes...
You can do no wrong
In my eyes...
A drunken salesman
Your hearing damage
Your mind is restless
They say you're getting better
But you don't feel any better
Your speakers are blowing
Your ears are wrecking
Your hearing damage
You wish you felt better
You wish you felt better
You can do no wrong
In my eyes...
You can do no wrong
In my eyes...

What's not to love about a Restless Flycatcher with that slender body and beautiful crest.
They're always a delight to see and I particularly like their distinctive churring call, the scissor grinder.
