But it's okay, he's got a snorkel, he'll breathe just fine underneath that pile of plush.

My wife and I stopped at the Seagrove Visitor's Center Rest Area on our way to Virginia. There were a lot of black eyed susans at the rest area.

Hefti Rest Area - Descriptive plaque

This rest area is just south of Jacksonville, on I-95 southbound.

I thought the arches and the palm trees were very attractive.

After hours and hours, and many hundreds of miles, I finally got into Arizona. I stopped at a rest area to take a couple of photos. I had no idea I had a damn smudge on the lens after checking the car trailer. Dammit.

There aren't very many 'restful' rest areas along this stretch of the highway but this one is deluxe.

I didn't try any of them, but I thought the concept was very cool

May 1, 2011: I stopped here on my back from Savannah today for a bathroom break. Today was a beautiful day, weather wise, with a warm breze blowing. Looking over at this picnic area reminded me of our stops at Rest Area #62 and Rest Area #53 on our way to Nashville from Augusta in my childhood. The time of day I stopped here was about the time of day we'd stop at those rest area on our trips. My mother liked to leave in the afternoon and travel at night to enjoy the empty roads and avoid Atlanta traffic. I enjoyed those trips.

Located on I-45 south of Corsicana Texas at milepost 216. Newly completed in the Fall of 2011. Beautiful rest area with ample parking, sparkling clean restrooms, and interpretive displays. There is a companion rest area on the Southbound lanes of I-45.

Okay, so I understand the writing, but what the fuck is that supposed to be a picture of?!

At this rest area in Minnesota, I stopped the car for the night. A family of fat Jersey Shore fans were all there talking like Goombas about a boxful of kittens they'd found in the dumpster.

Yes, really: kittens in a dumpster. Some people are that fucking dickheaded.

Anyway, they were very young kittens, without their eyes even open, and it was all very troublesome for a bit there as we couldn't seem to find any shelter or animal abuse group nearby to the area. But all turned out well as the Goomba family was eventually persuaded to NOT try and open the kittens' eyes, and they got the little guys sucking water from the end of a moist washcloth until the state trooper showed up to take them away.

The kittens, not the fat Jersey Shore Goombas.

Some TVR models at the M6 rest area near Corley. As far as I know TVR production stopped in 2007. Plans to relaunch the company have failed until now.

Rest areas. It is nice when you come across rest areas that try to make the best of the situation. This one fit the bill. Flags flying proudly, shady trees and picnic tables along with colorful trash cans.

A rest area sculpture on Route 89 in Vermont.

There is a story to these sculptures, I just don't know it yet. Or know all of it. I found a picture of one of them online with this caption:

"One of 18 sculptures designed and fabricated during the International Sculpture Symposium held in Vermont in 1968 and 1971. Matching grant funding was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts."

From another source I learned the sculpture symposiums were organized by a much-loved and now deceased UVM professor. The sculptors came from all over the world, and the output was set at rest areas on Routes 89 and 91.
