We took an all-day photography tour with Oahu Photography Tour. It was a lot of fun. I recommend it highly.
Our second stop was at Waimea Valley Botanical Garden.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waimea_Valley
Waimea Valley is an area of historic cultural significance on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. The valley, being an important place in Hawaiian religion, includes several historical structures including stone terraces and walls constructed during the time of the Hawaiian monarchy. The nutrient-rich volcanic soil combined with a rainy environment provided the resourceful Hawaiians of the area the opportunity to create one of the most prosperous farming communities in all of Polynesia. The area had complex fish ponds, domesticated animal pens, various large farming beds, and was famous for the cultivation of pink taro root stock, a coveted item to the Ali`i (the Hawaiian elite).[1][2] Much of the garden floor was once cultivated for taro, sweet potato, and bananas, with new crops and orchards introduced by Europeans after their arrival.
Formerly known as the Waimea Valley Audubon Center and the Waimea Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the Waimea Valley is a historical nature park including botanical gardens. It is located at 59-864 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa, Oahu, Hawaii and is open daily except for Christmas and New Year's Day; an admission fee is charged.

Pretty little roadside bridge and waterfall on the Bethel Road (Route 26) in West Paris Maine. Snow Falls Rest Area.
While traveling to the Oregon coast on Saturday, we stopped at a little rest area along the way that offers very peaceful forest views, as well as the other 'stuff' rest areas are good for.
The lens I used here is my favorite for just about everything. It was repaired in January, and shortly after these shots decided that it needed to go visit the repair shop again. Luckily it's still under warranty this time. Leaving it at the camera shop wasn't quite as traumatic as before, but that empty spot in my camera bag is still a big one.
Road Trip!!! We didn't leave yesterday until 4 PM, so not much time for picture taking. However, the interstate rest area cooperated with a nice pre-sunset. I'll post a few shots along the way, although I miss having my nice monitor, and Lightroom refuses to work on my Mac, so most will probably wait for my return.

Below is what I wrote for the first photo from here, in the first comment box below. I was able to get closer to this rock formation but a tall chain link fence prevented getting any closer. I had to lift the camera up over head above the fence and shoot several exposures via dead reckoning. One came out relatively well in frame.
The rock formations in this area have fascinated me. I've been intending to stop here on one of the trips.
Sunday when Mike and I stopped at the west bound area the weather was cloudy/rainy and we were on the wrong side of the interstate. This past Tuesday on my way back to ABQ I stopped at the east bound area which is closer to some of the formations.
I only stopped for a few minutes and used the infrared as it was already later morning. Think of it as a recon more than a photo shoot.
The rest area is between exits 318 and 322 along I-10. The town of Dragoon is nearby. There is also a Dragoon Mtn and a Dragoon Pass nearby.
I'm hoping someday to get back there to explore more and hopefully hit it at a better time of day.
The name of the rest area is Texas Canyon Rest Area. There is a plaque at the area which reports that in 1872 near Dragoon Springs, about 4 miles south at Council Rocks, a treaty was signed with Cochise, leader of the Chiricahua Apache. The Apaches had waged war from and eluded capture in the Dragoon Mountains.

Taken at one of my favorite rest areas, Rogue River, Oregon. When I took this picture I didn't notice whatever was in the background that gave me that color. I liked it after I went through my pictures to see which ones came out best. Zero processing on this shot, SOOC.
yes, it IS nature... in it's glory. Water is one of the most sacred and precious things on earth... our bodies consist of mostly water, without it we die. Water is a prayer... a medicine. Water is a gift, a necessity. Water is often prayed over for healing... it is offered to guests of a home... Water nourishes and sustains the body and soul... it washes us clean on many levels...
And us? Do we respect this gift? Think about it.
To all of you, I give Water.
This beautifully detailed mural, which measures approximately 16 feet wide and four feet tall, is constructed from ceramic tile. The artist was a woman, but I do not know her name to give credit here. This wonderfully detailed piece is located in the Surry County, North Carolina Visitor's Center/Rest Area, southbound on Interstate 77.
With the migration in progress, I happened upon this beauty at a Texas rest area feeding of the lantana. It was spectacular to see these beauties continuing their journey further south.

Very windy yesterday along the Columbia river in Oregon. Besides pushing my truck around a bit, the clouds were crazy wild. For this shot I pulled into a rest area, but there was power lines, and their "Erector Set" looking towers, plus a Loves truck stop, all blocking the view I wanted. So, I walked behind and away from the rest area until I found this spot, nicely hiding all the crap I didn't want in my picture.
A little side note:
I saw a large crane land just out of sight and even though I didn't have my large telephoto lens, I tried to walking into the shrubs to get a picture. Of course it flew off when it heard me closing in. Branches got in the way and I never got a shot off. Still, it was pretty cool to see it. Also, saw two eagles this day. One in Idaho and one catching a fish in the Columbia. No chance of getting a picture, just trucked on through. The past few years I've been seeing a lot more eagles in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah. Good to see them making a resurgence.

Trees
By Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Another one of the amazing landscapes from my road trip last winter down the eastern side of Oregon and California - plus a touch of Nevada. Topaz Lake straddles the border between California and Nevada.

South Canol Road Yukon Territory
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canol_Road
The Canol Road was part of a project to build the Canol pipeline and a road from Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, to Whitehorse, Yukon, during World War II. The pipeline no longer exists, but the 449 kilometres (279 mi) long Yukon portion of the road is maintained by the Yukon Government during summer months. The portion of the road that still exists in the NWT is called the Canol Heritage Trail. Both road and trail are incorporated into the Trans-Canada Trail.

The unique garden bench pictured is a live edge, solid wood bench, likely crafted from wood species known for their durability and natural resistance to the elements, such as teak or acacia. Its distinctive design, featuring a single slab of wood with a naturally curved back, blends seamlessly with the outdoor setting.
Design and Features
Live Edge Design: The "live edge" characteristic means the natural, organic edge of the tree is retained, ensuring each bench is a unique piece of nature's artistry.
Curved Backrest: The gracefully curved backrest is designed to provide ergonomic support and a comfortable seating position, making it an inviting spot for relaxation.
Durable Construction: These types of benches are often constructed using traditional joinery methods like mortise and tenon and secured with quality hardware, ensuring structural integrity and longevity.
Natural Finish: The natural finish of the wood highlights its grain pattern and allows it to weather to a soft, silvery gray patina over time if left untreated in the elements.
Potential Locations and Use
Versatile Placement: This style of bench is suitable for various outdoor spaces, including gardens, porches, patios, and courtyards.
Focal Point: It can serve as a focal point in a garden design, drawing the eye and offering a place to rest along a pathway or overlooking a water feature.
Memorial Use: Benches with personalized engravings or unique designs are often used as lasting tributes or memorial benches in parks and private gardens.

How's everybody doing? Hope all is well! :)
I've been away for some time now and not doing anything photography related, I guess my camera has molds already :) I am still busy but will try to catch up with you guys!
This shot was taken last July in a rest area somewhere in Georgia during our summer vacation. Taken handheld using Panasonic point-and-shoot camera and post processed in Photoshop to give a comic-like feel.
Seen in Explore October 10, 2011. Highest position #105. Thanks everyone!!! :-)
Thanks for your visit, comments, and faves!
Have a great day my friends! :)
