Traverse Bay Vacation October 2018--Day 4

On Tuesday we headed home. We found some excellent color at the scenic overlook in US-131's Tustin rest area.

Part of my training for this wekeends City to Gong bike ride. Yep a fat bloke on a bike for 90kms is a scary prospect for both my lycra and my bike seat.

This is Liverpool! Trying to show where I live in a different light. Hope you like these images shot with the Fuji X-Pro1.

This is a bus stop on the T-Way. Would love to reshoot this as a HDR on a tripod. This was handheld at high ISO!

Travelling North on Highway 1

Travelling from Denver to Grand Junction, Colorado on Interstate 70, we passed through Glenwood Canyon and pulled off for a break and a picnic. Here, the Colorado River passes through a steep-walled canyon and the elevated highway passes on pillars to keep it tightly against the North wall. A consequence of this choice of construction is that the areas below the highway have become available as riverside rest areas. Near our lunch spot I came across a dandelion ready to release its sees and took a macro shot. - JW

As seen on the Mid-Century Modernist.

A striking mid-century modern form at the rest area next to the (also striking) salt flats west of the Great Salt Lake. I don’t remember the design of Utah's newer rest area structures, but I'm sure that’s because they aren’t memorable. This is one of those historically significant public designs, like those of the WPA, that remains uncredited, and often unappreciated, by today’s administrators.

1. What do your state's rest stops look like?

Ladies on the left. Half men on the right. Full men use bushes and trees. Thank you.

Road Trip 2014 - Day 1 - April 11 - I-70

This was our first rest area stop on the 2014 Road Trip, I-70 near Indianapolis, Indiana. We kept seeing these throughout the trip but they're tough to get while driving. I am glad I ran into this convoy early on at a rest area we happened to stop at. I also liked the color combination here, with the orange truck standing out.

My wife and I stopped at the Interstate 40 NC Welcome Center on our way home from Tennessee. It had been raining but stopped long enough for me to take a few pictures. The I-40 rest area/visitor's center is very scenic.

One of my favorite upstate NY State spots: At the rest area on Rt. 22 in Ancram, Columbia County....

Taken at the Monroe, Ohio rest area at mile 28 on I-75 Northbound. We were on our way to Michigan when we stopped at this rest area. My lady noticed the parked colorful truck and suggested that I take a picture of it while I awaited her return. I had to agree that it was a very nice looking truck and so took a shot of it. Turns out that Robert trucking is a Canadian company.

Big sand dunes with plenty of visible tracks from dune buggies at an area reserved for those activities in the extreme southeast corner of California. Some like it hot!

Eventually most of the vultures flew up into this tree and one decided to roost atop the light pole. I also need to remember to wipe dust off both the polaroid and my scanner.

Happy Bench Monday.

We made a quick stop for a restroom on our drive along I-70 in Colorado and came across this little peaceful oasis. Man but the views were endlessly impressive!

Inside the rest area. There was someone doing some cleaning in here, so this was about the best I could do

Shot at the eastbound Ehrenberg Rest Area on Interstate 10 in Arizona. Three hours later we were in Maricopa, Arizona, the end of a long drive from Washington state.

A pretty blue flower spotted at a rest area in NY.

There are several miniature sculptures at the Ohio US-35 rest area.

They are each about one foot tall They appear to be human forms. This looks like acrobats.

They are really kind of cute, and I enjoy admiring them each time we stop at the rest area.
