This photo has been taken in Vilnius [Lithuania] in september 2007, in the frame of the European photography project called : Homo Urbanus Europeanus. I have been shooting everyday [during one week] at this place, waiting in front of a very big advertising for a toothpaste. I wanted to catch exactly what I catched : two people walking, going to their office for working in front of their computer screen, below two people working with their arms. Kind of symmetry on the picture… but very opposite, regarding their job.
About the photographer :
Of Sicilian heritage, I was born in Tunisia, but I have lived in the south of France, Montpellier, since I was one year old. I am a self-taught photographer, working since June 2007 at a european photography project called : "Homo Urbanus Europeanus". As I like to say, regarding this project : "I am working for Europe”. Not less than 20 european capitals have already been visited by the project. The idea of the project is to gather European countries by the photography… whether they already belong to a European Union or not yet.

The first shot of 2006. This illustrates a one-word resolution: appreciate. Appreciate our surroundings, appreciate our family, appreciate life. The family went on a hike this morning that we had not taken before to Pulpit Rock. It was cool and windy, but a beautiful day to appreciate all of the above.
The mission was resolution. I had the thought of I hope the find a resolution to the Gas BS in Europe soon. When I went to take the shot there was no Gas.
Turns out it was only a broken pipe but I freaked.
It turned out to be great weather for today's Resolution 10k up at the racecourse after it got cancelled 2 weeks ago, nice to see so many familiar faces and well done to everyone taking part , did I mention I got a PB ..

The Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs held their first running of a New Year 5k Challenge Run and Road Race on Sunday January 13th 2013 at 13:00 in the village of Collinstown, County Westmeath, Ireland. The race was organised to raise funding for the development of the GAA pitches for the Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs. Overall this was a very successful event with a very large field of well over 200 participants which was exemplified by a very big local contingent from Collinstown and neighbouring areas. The race was an out and back course on the Collinstown to Fore Road. The prize giving and refreshments were given in the Lough Lene Inn Pub.

There was a 40 foot cutting head that drilled the hole and as they moved forward, a track was built under the machine. Then the trailing floor rolled onto the new track. Trains would run from the main shaft carrying the rock out, there was a switching floor on the trailing floor that moved the box cars from one side to the other for the return journey. when the train reached the main shaft, the entire car was spun round to dump the load. This is the machine that rolled the cars.

Pouring with rain tonight for 1Z51: The returning Northumbrian Explorer, Alnmouth to Worcester Shrub Hill, Pathfinder rail charter.
This year instead of attempting the 365 project I've decided to do the 52 week project. The prompt on the list for this week was "Resolution." I don't really ever make new years resolutions, but if I did, these would be some of them:
Spend more time with my siblings and take more photos together.
Play more music.
Do more photo shoots with friends.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!
John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
To me, one day follows another, if I do not have the resolve to make changes during the year, why should it make any difference at the beginning of a new one?
I am resolved to keep on loving my wife, and to continue to search for new ways of doing things, to give society a better chance for a greater future by empowering those who could make a difference if only they knew how - and to break the power of the callous and the selfish.

A rich Victorian porter at 5.3% from the Victoria Inn Brewhouse at Roch, Pembrokeshire. This beer was just superb. I always think dark beers with a head and some froth down the side of the glass make great photos.

I recommend that you download full resolution images and zoom to 100% in your image editing software, e.g. Photoshop, to review sharpness - 4K examples that follow will appear sharper when viewed in a web browser.
Note > Minor cropping may have been made to either straighten the image or to adjust to the 16:10 aspect ratio (the shape of most computer monitors).
So what is the best resolution for sharp images on Flickr?
Of course, the resolution, in which the images are displayed ... so no interpolation is needed.
But in which rez are the photos displayed? That varyies ...
In my opinion and with my tests, I would say, that the following rezs are good ones:
1024 x 683 (does mean: 1024 x somethingsmallerthan1024, example aspect ratio 3:2)
683 x 1024 (does mean: somethingsmallerthan1024 x 1024, example aspect ratio 2:3 )
These are the resolutions in which images are displayed in the "large" presentation. Also it's the maximum rez for the no-charge usage of Flickr.
Also good ones:
2048 x 2048
2048 x 1366, 1366 x 2048
These can be downsampled to quarter rez with almost no loss in sharpness (due to factor 2), but you also have a large backup of the file on flickr ... (also rez like the following are good ones: 4096x 4096 and so on ..., ... all with multiples of 1024 on the long side).
Examples: Compare these shots, both sharpened, but the 1024x683 shot was sharpened after downsampling:
www.flickr.com/photos/galllo/5833619909/in/photostream/
www.flickr.com/photos/galllo/5829987225/in/photostream/
These shots should be viewed in full rez display. With "large" viewing and with the browser in full-screen mode. Only so, one image pixel is one monitor pixel.
***
Btw.: Why not optimizing for Medium Size Viewing? This would mean to interpolate the shots down to some rez with 640 pixels on the long side. Too small to see any optimiziation, I think. I did some experiments, trying to optimize for Medium Size Viewing, but there was almost no difference visible.
