As the Nikon D800 came out, many argued that the many pixels are useless, some even think they hurt image quality because of diffraction.

Simply put: Yes diffraction exists, but having more pixels still give you an edge.

So how did I find out: In the image above the right column has been shot at 70mm and the indicated aperture. I shot with a D90 where diffraction starts to become clearly visible from f/11 on.

The left column had been shot at 120mm with an aperture 1.3 stops smaller to imitate the diffraction of smaller pixels. Distance stayed the same, I cropped the same region and exported from Lr4 with standard screen sharpening to a resolution of 1200x800, which involved up-scaling for the right column (here the same without upresing ).

Why these numbers: The idea was to use only a third of the pixels, which means a 1.7 crop factor. 70mm * 1.7 = 120mm. The 1.3 stop difference should be 1.26, but this cannot be set on any lens - the difference is small and leans to more diffraction. (1.26 is the base 2 logarithm of 1.7). Thus the left series had been shot at f/9, f/13 and f/18.

When you browse the columns, you can see the effect of diffraction, the topmost images contain more detail. Comparing side by side shows that the additional resolution really helps the image.

So will I get a D800? Not decided yet, but I am not worried about the high resolution.

The Online Dispute Resolution Conference took place in Paris from 12-13 June 2017. This year's discussions were around equal access to information and justice.

The Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs held their first running of a New Year 5k Challenge Run and Road Race on Sunday January 13th 2013 at 13:00 in the village of Collinstown, County Westmeath, Ireland. The race was organised to raise funding for the development of the GAA pitches for the Lough Lene Gaels Hurling and Camogie Clubs. Overall this was a very successful event with a very large field of well over 200 participants which was exemplified by a very big local contingent from Collinstown and neighbouring areas. The race was an out and back course on the Collinstown to Fore Road. The prize giving and refreshments were given in the Lough Lene Inn Pub.

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

The library of congress offers a multitude of historical images online, many needing no license to redistribute. I have some wonderful ideas. Now I need to act on them.

Questions popped up about my last image today: Why would I use so many images to make a Panorama image, you can do it with less images they say. And that's true!

The right side of the image is part of a panorama image made with 3 images using a 10-24mm lens in Landscape mode.

The left side is part of a 10-image panorama using a 35mm lens in portrait mode. See the difference in resolution & sharpness! Although both images look good when viewed on Flickr, viewing them 1:1 is showing significant differences in details, sharpness and contrast. When you print those images on large format you'll see it definitely.

This does not make the image on the right a bad one, not at all, I will continue to make those as well. But when you need or want a better quality from time to time you can do it, even with a D7000...

I really wan't to take more pictures with all kinds of different cameras. I would like to take it back to basic. And i would also like to be more healthy and eat all the good stuff.

I haven't made resolutions for myself since I was a kid. But this year I think I'll set a few goals for myself. I know I want to either change my career or advance it - I'm just not sure which way to go. I want to be more active, go on long hikes, fix my bike and go bike-camping. I want to rekindle some old interests/talents like creating things - be it sculptures (I want my friggin welder back!) or robots. I want to make my marriage even better than it already is.

I'll come up with a definite list later on today, but for now, the floors are almost dry after my mopping and I'm going to take Yoda for a walk.

This is Mick McElwee of the MPI Resolution, who is untrustworthy. He even had an affair with a Danish girl on the ship. Yeah, on the ship!! I would go past her cabin and he would be besoted with her and they were listening to James Blunt, of all people. Crap love songs like a silly school boy, while his wife was at home, no doubt looking after the children thinking her husband was working hard to earn a living for his "family".

We thought he was a friend, but he's just too selfish (or too stupid). He was sent a text, private and he went and showed it to the bosses. For all I know we edited it, he probably did and then a good hard worker got sacked because of him. He used to take thousands of cigarettes home with him. Yes, he's also a smuggler. How I wish he was caught with the 25,000 cigarettes he had. But this good man covered for him and was ready to take partial blame, but he went and practically grassed on him so he lost his job.

People who know him will think he's a decent chap, but he is fooling them. He no longer fools me and I don't see why he should have a happy peacefull life so I've decided to reming the people of Teesside who might know him that he has been unfaithfull to his wife and family and he could well and truely do it again

With this my 365 Project comes to a close. What will next year bring?
