I don't really do resolutions, but I do want to make sure I get a bit more exercise this year, so on with the trainers! Mrs Pod is supervising here to make sure I do it right. Whatever I do one of the cats has to be there to check on me as they assume all humans, and me especially, are incompetent.
Honestly, i didn't achieve much last year. So... i want 2008 to be about change. Change that i hope i can look back on and be satisfied with. Not that the mind is ever completely satisfied... but i want to try so that when 2009 approaches i don't say i didn't achieve anything in the last year :p. So the plan is to work on 2 aspects of my life. To decrease "wants" and to try and gain some food for the soul. :) All this time, i thought i needed something more ... but i don't. I need to work on all that i have before i can ask for more.
Below is the plan:
Let nothing upset you,
let nothing startle you.
All things pass;
God does not change.
Patience wins
all it seeks.
Whoever has God
lacks nothing:
God alone is enough.

Former Foreign Secretary William Hague speaking to the media following the veto of the United Nations Security Council Resolution on Syria, 19 July 2012.
In early January 2012, the Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI) hosted a gathering of folks who take low altitude photographs using unconventional means. I drove the Westfalia down from Berkeley, an 1100-mile round trip, and had a great time camping along the way.
The group included rocketeers, kiters, balloonists, radio control aircraft fliers, pole balancers, throwers of balls, and more. The aerialists convened at CLUI’s Desert Research Station near Barstow in the Mojave Desert. We then ventured forth to the Cuddeback Dry Lake Bed to photograph a series of three resolution targets used in the testing of aircraft-based aerial surveillance platforms (think SR-71). Our photography platforms afforded a working height several orders of magnitude closer to the ground.
Over the course of an afternoon we visited three of these aerial photo resolution targets, each approximately the size of a basketball court. Surrounded by low fences, they were basically paved rectangles painted black with tar on which white three-bar patterns were painted in decreasing sizes. The targets were in a state of disrepair.
It was great fun being out under a big sky. I was lucky to find workable breezes at each of the target sites and took these photographs using a Sutton 16 and a Sutton 30.
12 high-resolution Vignettes created and then, using filters found around the internet, removed the white matte so that the transparency would appear perfect. However, Flickr creates the images in *.jpg format so in order to get the full transparent files, go to www.outsidethefray.com/2013/01/12-vignette-textures/.
It turned out to be great weather for today's Resolution 10k up at the racecourse after it got cancelled 2 weeks ago, nice to see so many familiar faces and well done to everyone taking part , did I mention I got a PB ..
Thanks to Kristy for taking most of the photos in the cold ..
Four days in, and I already stumbled. Today was rough, my energy was at rock bottom, but this challenge kept me going. I even managed a self-portrait, which felt monumental after doing nothing today. It's crazy how something so simple can seem impossible at times. Why do we procrastinate? Hopefully, this challenge teaches me to conquer it. Overcoming just this one hurdle could transform me in no time. I bet that's true for most of us.

I'm experimenting with upsizing some Nikon D800, D800E, & D810 HDR photographs to the 8288 x 5520 or 8256 x 5504 resolution of the Nikon D850! The Pixel dimensions of the Nikon D810 are 7360 × 4912 pixels. The D810's pixel width of 7360 pixels is about 90% of the D850's pixel width of 8256 pixels. Thus, at 90%, it would be hard to tell the difference between photos taken with the two Nikons, except in the very largest prints perhaps! The D810 has 36.3 megapixels or 36 megapixels, while the D850 has 45.7 megapixels, or 46 megapixels.

The older daughter of our lovely host at Mat Leon Village in Taman Negara holding her baby brother. Unlike her younger sister she was incredibly mature and pretty much looked after the other kids while her dad rushed around dealing with backpackers. Last year, City Council voted on a resolution to make Juneteenth (June 19) a permanent City Holiday. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 that enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, the last of the former Confederate states to abolish slavery, heard that the Civil War had ended and learned that the Emancipation Proclamation had made them free nearly two years earlier. It is generally considered the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
The Boardwalk played host to a new event: "Juneteenth on the Beach," designed to make all feel welcome while celebrating freedom and unity.
Mayor Bobby Dyer says this event is a big part of changing things. "This is going to be a legacy event for the city. We want this to happen every year," Dyer said. "We want that feeling of positivity out at the Oceanfront so people know that they're welcome here."
The Oceanfront’s inaugural Unity in the Community art walk was all about spreading inspiration and representation, according to artists working to create Juneteenth-inspired murals for the weekend festival.
The Virginia African American Cultural Center selected 21 artists from around the state to create 30 murals along the boardwalk for the city’s Juneteenth celebration. Of the 21, 14 are from diverse cultural backgrounds, one is deaf and six are white.
Over three days, they gathered to create the “Unity in the Community” art walk, which stretches more than a mile between 15th and 31st streets. The murals have been painted on custom designed wooden frames attached to the boardwalk railing, making the artwork visible to anyone on the boardwalk or the beach.
