I bumped into this colourfully dressed Indian woman on the street, and she was kind enough to let me shoot a headless portrait of her red dress and intricate bracelets. I'm not one for shooting street photography, so I especially like this one.

The shallow depth of field possible on this 50mm lens really lends itself to photographing jewelry well.

Unedited shot of myself reflected on the smashed window of a car in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

2010 was a bit of a sh*t year for me, so I've set my mind to making 2011 a much better year...unlike most people, who try to quit smoking or drink less, I have decided that my only New Years resolution will be to take even wickeder reflection pictures than last year. With my new Sony HX1 camera and a bit of help from the rain gods (and those in charge of any other reflective surface), I should be able to make it happen and I'm really looking forward to blowing your mind with my 2011-style reflection shots :))

To make this even more fun, I will take part in a photo exhibition again next month at the ABC Treehouse, together with the lovely Miss Monyart, make sure to mark it in your calender already, it's going to start on February 5 and will go on until the end of the month, hope to see you there :)

The We're Here! gang is making resolutions today. Mine is the same as it has been for a few years: "This year I'll improve my Spanish!"

Prior testing had shown a significant improvement in resolution when using the one camera-lens combination I own that matches the profiles provided by the developer “Almalence”. What about when I use a non-supported combo? They say that by using a close match the software will still perform well. My Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] Model A16 (don’t ask me why they need so many designations) is an excellent and popular lens. I use it frequently. I set up a target, lit it well, and started shooting both on and off a tripod, and also braced atop it but not locked in place. I shot at 32mm zoom and f/5.6. I tried enough different combos to simulate a truly concerted effort to find the best alternative profile. It seems one would have to do this not just for every lens but at least cursorily for every f stop, and for various focal lengths with a zoom. We’re talking not just a lot of effort but possibly having to refer to charts when out shooting. For instance, when using the profile for my D300 plus the most similar AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G, I could see a difference when processing using the 17-32mm subprofile versus the 32mm-50mm one. (I had coincidentally shot at exactly 32mm.) Also, as you can see in the test images, though I shot at f/5.6 there was a big difference when using the f/1.8-5.6 subprofile for the 35mm 1:1.8 lens versus the f/5.6-10 subprofile. In short: one cannot trust intuition.

Thankfully, the software allows one to do quick/rough tests of different profiles-subprofiles. One needn't fully process as I did for the examples shown. So in addition to the tests shown above, I was able to check on about another dozen combos. That would save time when creating your charts, but one still would have to pre-test to see if using a particular unsupported lens made sense at all.

Results: once again I found that the software could improve resolution, though perhaps a bit less so this time than when I used the exact profile match. But there's no way I'm going to take hours testing all my lenses out at different focal lengths and apertures to see what's worth doing. Consider: as shot in my test above, I could simply have halved my distance to the subject and shot a 2x2 panorama. I'd get an even greater boost in resolution and the panorama stitching software couldn't care less what camera-lens-aperture combo I was using at the time. Plus I already own the stitching software (the version inside PhotoShop CS5 is fine). Sorry Almalence - no sale. My advice is to add a lot more lenses to your database and stay current on them and on camera models.

Note: in their partial defense - the software can read your EXIF info and automatically use the correct profile (if available), so presumably when using supported lenses all this fuss could be avoided. They support 22 lenses for the D300; it just so happens I own only one of the 22. If my four favorite lenses were supported I'd be more interested in the software. But even so, the difference between subprofile results -- twice! -- when I just happened to be right at the margin between them, once with focal length and once with aperture, means I have little confidence that their automatic choice would always be the best one. The principle behind this software is sound and practical, and I'll bet some of their algorithms perform better than my tests have shown, but proper implementation for commercial use requires an investment by the developers of many hours and lot$$$ of fees to LensRentals.com for all the combos they need to test. (They should discuss a partnership!) Again, to be fair to Almalence, they provide instructions for submitting to them the image sets they would need to construct the profiles for a lens-camera combo. I could do that even before I purchased the software and they would give me the software for free. It entails taking about 100 shots both RAW and JPEG of a screen target they provide. I might consider it. For one thing, a profile made from my specific lens-camera combo is likely to be better for me than the same combo using someone else's lens and camera. No two lenses are exactly alike and lens-camera couplings are even more fickle! So while they probably wouldn't re-do the one lens I have for the D300, if they did it might give me even better results than those I obtained using the already-available profile.

This is my first Project Life page. I'm working a little backwards perhaps, as I haven't done the cover page, yet. I got this idea to do a resolutions page from this pin - www.pinterest.com/pin/54395107973348049/ (thanks MH!). I took pictures on New Years Day and then wrote our resolutions on the pictures (or to the sides on the C1's and Jason's - which he hasn't told me yet). I had C1 write his in himself - it says "Pick up my toys after I play with them and read more books". The brown paper is a brown paper grocery bag. My core kit is Kraft.

This is a photograph from the fourth annual running of the "Mullingar 10" - a 10 mile road race and fun run which was held in Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday July 17th 2017 at 11:00. The race was organised by Mullingar Harriers who promoted the event. There was almost 280 participants in the event. The race follows a simple 'figure of 8' route. The race starts from Dalystown National School and heads north briefly to Dalystown cross-roads where there is a left turn which brings runners along the L1122 road. The only real cross-over of the route is at the 2.5 and 7.5 mile mark. The race completes a loop between 2.5 and the 7.5 mile mark which brings runners into the locality of Ballinagore. The final 2.5 miles of the race brings runners back through Cloneheigue and the final 1.5 miles of the race is along straight road heading north back to Dalystown and the finish outside of Wallace's Pub which is just off the N52 road.

The course was a mixture of long straight level sections of road with some short rolling hills which made for a challenging but an overall fair course. The race took place is warm temperatures with a strong southerly breeze in the face of runners for stretches along the route. However some beautiful mature hedgerows along the mostly rural roads provided shade and shelter from the sun for runners. This race has actually had excellent weather for its first four years with some runners saying that temperatures may have even been a bit too high for distance running.

This was the fourth year of the event it has become an annual fixture on the calendar. The running calendar today shows a marked shortage of races at the 10 mile distance and this was one of the original reasons this distance was chosen for this race. Clubs from all over the North Leinster region and beyond were represented today. Refreshments were provided outside Wallace's Pub at the Finish line. Well done to Mullingar Harriers and all the many volunteers who helped make today's race a wonderful success.

Dalystown is very much a picture of the classic rural Irish parish and is situated about 7 miles south of Mullingar just off the N52 road to Tullamore Co. Offaly. The lands of Dalystown is situated at the south east corner of Lough Ennell which is the dominant geographical feature around this part of Co. Westmeath.

When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
