One of the few stray cats that resides in our garden.

The annual vivarium that is setup at New York’s American Museum of Natural History as the Butterfly Conservatory is a wonderful 80 degree temporary home to almost 500 living butterflies and moths that just closed up at the end of May. Butterfly diversity is decreasing more and more all over the world. In fact I remember growing up not too far from where I live now in northern New Jersey and the many butterflies I would see in our back yard and the park up the street where my parents still reside. The one striking difference is the lack and in some cases total lack of butterflies and moths in many places in New Jersey and New York. They play such a vital role in the life cycle of plants so one can only wonder what effects their decreasing numbers is having on vegetation as insects like butterflies and bees continue to dwindle in number. So this wonderful Conservatory that the American Museum of Natural History sets up annually brings attention to the plight of these wonderfully diverse arthropods and allows one to literally enter into their world. I stayed within the vivarium over an hour, patiently waiting for these gifted insects would come to an area where I could photograph them. Definitely worth seeing if visiting the museum when the conservatory is up.

As much as I adore the liquid element, I reside at a place where it is is considered a rather scarce commodity and can hardly be located ... Thank God, at a distance of half an hour drive there lies the beautiful river of Nestos, whose flow is surrounded by amazing Green Nature and bridges, lots of bridges !!!

I love using my tripod and my ND (Neutral Density) filters over my lenses ... Their combined use enhances considerably the appropriate shutter speed for a balanced exposure, thus blurring water's flow and creating beautiful sharp images .... Environmental colors remain unaltered ...

I definitely suggest them for extensive use over around blue hours landscape photography ...

Isernia resides in the province of the same name it sits at a towering 475m above sea level at the conjunction of two rivers, its founding dates from pre Roman times but very little of antiquity still resides here. The city was mostly leveled during WWII trying to stop the German retreat through the city, the Allies hit the multiple bridges over the two rivers the town was sandwiched between but it took multiple air bombings to accomplish and the destruction of the old city itself. One of the few monuments left standing was fortunately the city symbol Fraterna Fountain made of Roman remnants in the 14th century dedicated to Pope Celestine V born here and put in place by the local Rampini family.

Wiki:

Avignon is a commune in south-eastern France in the department of Vaucluse on the left bank of the Rhône river. Between 1309 and 1377 during the Avignon Papacy, seven successive popes resided in Avignon and in 1348 Pope Clement VI bought the town from Joanna I of Naples. Papal control persisted until 1791 when, during the French Revolution, it became part of France. The town is now the capital of the Vaucluse department and one of the few French cities to have preserved its ramparts. The historic centre, which includes the Palais des Papes, the cathedral, and the Pont d'Avignon, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The medieval monuments and the annual Festival d'Avignon have helped to make the town a major centre for tourism.

The Pont Saint-Bénézet), also known as the Pont d'Avignon), is a famous medieval bridge.

A bridge spanning the Rhone between Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and Avignon was built between 1177 and 1185. This early bridge was destroyed forty years later during the Albigensian Crusade when Louis VIII of France laid siege to Avignon. The bridge was rebuilt with 22 stone arches. It was very costly to maintain as the arches tended to collapse when the Rhone flooded. Eventually in the middle of the 17th century the bridge was abandoned. The four surviving arches on the bank of the Rhone are believed to have been built in around 1345 by Pope Clement VI during the Avignon Papacy. The Chapel of Saint Nicholas sits on the second pier of the bridge. It was constructed in the second half of 12th century but has since been substantially altered.

The great crested grebe is the largest member of the grebe family found in the Old World, with some larger species residing in the Americas. They measure 46–51 cm (18–20 in) long with a 59–73 cm (23–29 in) wingspan and weigh 0.9 to 1.5 kg (2.0 to 3.3 lb). It is an excellent swimmer and diver, and pursues its fish prey underwater. The adults are unmistakable in summer with head and neck decorations. In winter, this is whiter than most grebes, with white above the eye, and a pink bill.

The young are distinctive because their heads are striped black and white. They lose these markings when they become adults.

I used to fish a lot, of all varieties. Fly fishing was a favorite.

I started with photography at 10, but when I purchased my first Nikon digital camera the ability to completely control the image from capture to presentation became my passion. I've since given my fishing gear away. My photography addiction had begun. However, I still love and value the beauty of where the fish reside, like here.

Winding more than 130 miles through a scenic Idaho wilderness from its source high in the Bitterroot Mountains to Lake Coeur d’Alene, the St. Joe River is a Blue Ribbon trout fishery, offering some of the region’s best fly-fishing. Protected by Congress through the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act as well as Idaho Fish and Game regulations, the waters of the St. Joe have been cultivated into one of the West’s finest trout fisheries.

This scenic river beckons to beginners and seasoned fishermen alike to enjoy bountiful catches of cutthroat trout ranging anywhere from 8” to 22”. More than 50 miles of the upper river glide through lush northwestern forest and are managed as catch-and- release water. Only flies and artificial lures with single barbless hooks are allowed.

Chapman Falls which resides in the Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam Connecticut is one of those spots which is listed on the Haunted Connecticut spots to visit. People have claimed to have seen orbs or heard demonic laughter in the woods, but most find it a hiking spot with a great waterfall to relax by.

From the DEEP website:

A search for the origin of the name "Devil's Hopyard" reveals a wide variety of different stories; none of them are verifiable and all are likely to be more fiction than fact. One of the most popular of these stories is about a man named Dibble, who had a garden for growing hops used in the brewing of beer. It seems that through usage, Dibble's Hopyard became Devil's Hopyard. There are records of several farmers having hopyards in the area, but there is no mention of a landowner named Dibble. However, Dibble might have been a tenant.

Residing in Orchard Park, the Eternal Flame Falls are one of our most monumental natural landmarks. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit Chestnut Ridge, the park in which these falls...fall. The ~1,200 acre swathe of land is stunning in every season, and home to boundless fauna ranging the scarlet tanager to the common gray treefrog to the barred owl! Visiting is always a hoot, even if you aren't an owl yourself.

P.S., the level of detail attainable through the 5Ds line of cameras always blows my mind.

In minimalism resides a character who wants to create a balance between full and empty.

Not personally, one presumes.

Built on the site of an existing Saxon hall, Corfe Castle was an early stone castle built on a natural mound, starting in the 1080s.The Normans more commonly built wooden castles (Baileys) on man-made mounds (Mottes). Corfe Castle continued in use for centuries, several English Kings residing here for short periods. It was eventually ‘slighted’ ie damaged beyond use in the English Civil War in 1648.

The site had been the scene of the bloody murder of King Edward the Martyr in 978 at the behest of his wicked step-mother, Elfrida. A plaque in the village commemorates the 1000th year since his murder. Personally, I’d rather not be murdered and go without the 1000 year plaque, which, admittedly is a pretty cool thing to have. I mean, how many people get to be commemorated a whole millennium after their death? Not many!

Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is built on a group of 118 small islands that are separated by expanses of open water and by canals; portions of the city are linked by over 400 bridges. The islands are in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed bay lying between the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers (more exactly between the Brenta and the Sile). In 2020, around 258,685 people resided in greater Venice or the Comune di Venezia, of whom around 51,000 live in the historical island city of Venice (centro storico) and the rest on the mainland (terraferma). Together with the cities of Padua and Treviso, Venice is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), which is considered a statistical metropolitan area, with a total population of 2.6 million.

The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century BC. The city was historically the capital of the Republic of Venice for almost a millennium, from 810 to 1797. It was a major financial and maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as an important centre of commerce—especially silk, grain, and spice, and of art from the 13th century to the end of the 17th. The city-state of Venice is considered to have been the first real international financial centre, emerging in the 9th century and reaching its greatest prominence in the 14th century. This made Venice a wealthy city throughout most of its history. For centuries Venice possessed numerous territories along the Adriatic Sea and within the Italian peninsula, leaving a significant impact on the architecture and culture that can still be seen today. The sovereignty of Venice came to an end in 1797, at the hands of Napoleon. Subsequently, in 1866, the city became part of the Kingdom of Italy.

Venice has been known as "La Dominante", "La Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". The lagoon and the historic parts of the city within the lagoon were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, covering an area of 70,176.4 hectares (173,410 acres). In view of the fact that Venice and its lagoon are under constant threat in terms of their ecology and the safeguarding of the cultural heritage, Venice's UNESCO listing has been under constant examination by UNESCO. Parts of Venice are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. Venice is known for several important artistic movements—especially during the Renaissance period—and has played an important role in the history of instrumental and operatic music; it is the birthplace of Baroque composers Tomaso Albinoni and Antonio Vivaldi.

In the 21st century, Venice remains a very popular tourist destination, a major cultural centre, and has been ranked many times the most beautiful city in the world. The city faces challenges including an excessive number of tourists in the centro storico as well as problems caused by pollution, tide peaks and cruise ships sailing too close to buildings. It has been described by The Times as one of Europe's most romantic cities and by The New York Times as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man"

June 7, 2021, we saw and photographed the Red-faced Spinetail (Cranioleuca erythrops) for the first time at El Ensueño. It is the 118th species that we have registered at this location.

Most spinetails forage near ground level; in contrast, the Red-faced Spinetail feeds in the forest canopy.

The Red-faced Spinetail resides in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama. It measures 15 cm (5.9 in) long.

Shakujii Park (石神井公園) used to be a castle resided by a Samurai (warrior ruler) named Yasutsune Toshima (豊島泰経). He was attacked and defeated by Doukan Oota (太田道灌) based in Edo in 1478. Legend has it that Yasutsune and his daughter Teruhime (照姫) drowned themselves here in the Sanpouji-ike (三宝寺池).

The shrine in the photo is called Itsukushima Jinja (厳島神社), which may have been installed to soothe their souls. In spite of that, this area is considered as haunted, and there are sporadic reports of encountering ghosts or taking ghost photos especially at night.

Doukan's Edo Castle was transferred to Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康) in 1590. Tokugawa clan had ruled Japan from the expanded Edo Castle from 1603 to 1868, which is called Edo Jidai (江戸時代 Edo Period). After the restoration of imperial rule in 1868, which is called Meiji Ishin (明治維新 Meiji Restoration), the imperial family moved in from Kyoto, Edo was renamed to Tokyo (meaning eastern Kyoto or capital), and Edo Castle was converted to an imperial residence called Koukyo (皇居).

The Trinity Monastery of St. Jonas (Ukrainian: Свято-Троїцький Іонинський чоловічий монастир) is a Ukrainian Orthodox monastery in the Kyivan neighbourhood of Zvirynets, a short distance from the medieval Vydubychi Monastery.

It was Jonas, a Vydubychi hegumen, who founded this monastery in 1864. Princess Vasilchikov, the widow of Kyiv's Governor General, decided to support the undertaking and presented her dacha to the brethren. It was on these grounds that the katholikon was constructed. The monastery's bell tower, at 110 meters, was to be the tallest in the Orthodox world. Its construction was halted due to the outbreak of World War I. As many as 800 monks resided there at the time.

The monastery was closed in 1934 and its grounds were taken over by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden. The monks of the recently revived monastery now help to restore the nearby Zvirynets caves.

A bearded barbet (Lybius dubius) residing in an aviary of the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona. The species is native to west and central Africa.

The beauty of a landscape resides in its melancholy.

This species resides in coniferous forests feeding on the cones because their bills are adapted for harvesting the seeds buried within the cones with the mandibles crossed enabling them to pry the scales apart so they can lap up the seed with their tongues. Their preference is forests of red and white pine but will also accept stands of other pines, spruce and fir.

When they find a bumper crop of cones and decide they are going to establish a breeding territory the female builds a nest and lays 3 or 4 eggs that she incubates for 12 - 18 days. Their favored food is seeds from cones but they will also eat buds, deciduous tree seeds, occasionally insects and is often seen licking at road salt and soils high in minerals.

Summer

I love to visit here in the eastern part of Poland. Its where my fiancees family resides and it is a pure experience of relaxation. Too much food, too much attention and way too much ice cream seem to make everything easy for a time. Walking to get more ice cream I couldn't resist this little colorful parcel of joy. Have a beautiful weekend and of course HFF. :)

Every year, flamingos overwinter in the Grevelingenmeer in the Netherlands. During the summer, the flamingos reside in the Zwillbrocker Venn, a lake just across the border in Germany, where they lay their eggs and breed. The lake consists of fresh water, which freezes in winter. Therefore, these colorful birds migrate to the salty Grevelingenmeer from October onwards.

Storks are fascinating to me because they don’t reside in the Ozarks. When I saw this pair on a museum in Turkey, I almost got in trouble with the tour guide because I stopped to take pictures! “European white storks use their long, pointed bill to spear prey. They are monogamous, meaning breeding pairs mate for life. These birds return to the same nest every year, with the male arriving a few days before the female to repair and enlarge the structure.”

Normally residing in Africa this one has been located on the Uk's South Coast. Despite no rings you would have to assume an escapee? Now appears to be doing well living in the wild.

Whatever its origins a nice change to see amongst our less colourful crows.
