Ms. Simon, who resides at the Houston Audubon Raptor and Education Center, was found on the side of a Wyoming highway in 2016 with a broken wing and leg. The wing healed slightly crooked and she cannot fly well enough to be returned to the wild.
Plumeria (/pluːˈmɛriə/), known as frangipani, is a genus of flowering plants in the subfamily Rauvolfioideae, of the family Apocynaceae. Most species are deciduous shrubs or small trees. The species variously are endemic to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, and as far south as Brazil and north as Florida (United States), but are sometimes grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals in warm regions. Common names for plants in the genus vary widely according to region, variety, and whim, but frangipani or variations on that theme are the most common. Plumeria is also used as a common name, especially in horticultural circles.
The genus is named in honor of 17th-century French botanist and Catholic monk Charles Plumier, who traveled to the New World documenting many plant and animal species. The common name "frangipani" comes from a 16th-century marquis of the noble Frangipani family in Italy, who claimed to have invented a plumeria-scented perfume,[9] but in reality made a synthetic perfume that was said at the time to resemble the odor of the recently discovered flowers.[10] Many English speakers also simply use the generic name "plumeria".[citation needed] In Southeast Asia the plumeria tree and flower are considered sacred. A relief in the Penataran temple ruins in East Java shows a plumeria tree with its distinct flower petals and skeleton-like branches. A relief in the Borobudur temple, at the west side 1st zone, also depicts plumeria. These reliefs were created before European exploration. Borobudur was constructed in the 9th century and Penataran in the 14th century. Taken together, their dates make difficult the question of deciding when plumeria came to Southeast Asia.
In eastern India and Bangladesh, plumeria is traditionally considered as a variety of the champak flower, the golok chapa (গোলোক চাঁপা), meaning the champaka that resides in the heavenly home of Sri Krishna, a Hindu god at the highest realm of heaven. The flower, considered sacred, is also known by the names gulancha and kath golap (literally, wood rose).
This rescued bird, injured and unable to return to the wild, resides at the Houston Audubon Society's Raptor and Education Center.
With a total range in Europe and Asia of about 32 million square kilometres (12 million square miles) and a total population estimated to be between 250 thousand and 2.5 million, the IUCN lists the bird's conservation status as being of "least concern". The vast majority of eagle-owls live in mainland Europe, Russia and Central Asia, and an estimated number of between 12 and 40 pairs are thought to reside in the United Kingdom as of 2016, a number which may be on the rise.

Inuksuit (the plural of Inuksuk) serve in a spiritual capacity to indicate a place where life is renewed or where spirits reside; where judgements or decisions are made or where celebrations and festivals are held. Traditionally, they were used by the Inuit in the north as directional markers. An Inukshuk in the shape of a person signifies safety, hope and friendship. These stone sculptures were also important for navigation, as a point of reference, as a marker for hunting grounds, or to denote a food cache.

During the day, most tawny owls stay in tree hollows. At dusk they fly off to hunt for prey.
The big difficulty for every interested photographer is to find the roosting place. Even if you know in which area the owl resides, you have to be lucky and persistent to spot the bird.
It was easier to spot the bird in this oddball photo, as photographers were already on site and had it in their sights.
The beauty of Colorado Provençal lies in the fact that the site was created both by nature and by men: the ocher trees.
In Rustrel, mining began at the end of the 19th century. The ocriers then tore open the earth to tear off the precious pigments declining a thousand colors and giving birth to landscapes with fantastic shapes.

Don't know if Poogy is he/she or it but I think the name, I gave her, suits her nicely.
Sometimes, when I visit her, I'm thinking.......if I kiss Poogy, will she turn to a gorgeous princess with big.......eyes?
So we can fall in love, get married, have lots and lots of children and live happily ever after......Amen.

The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of eagle-owl that resides in much of Eurasia. It is abbreviated to just the eagle-owl in Europe It is one of the largest species of owl, and females can grow to a total length of 75 cm (30 in), with a wingspan of 188 cm (6 ft 2 in), with males being slightly smaller. This bird has distinctive ear tufts. The orange eyes are distinctive.
Eurasian eagle-owls are found in many habitats, but are mostly birds of mountainous regions or other rocky areas, often those near varied woodland edge and shrubby areas with openings or wetlands to hunt a majority of their prey. Additionally, they inhabit coniferous forests, steppes, and other areas at varied elevations that are typically relatively remote.
The eagle-owl is mostly a nocturnal predator, hunting for a range of different prey species. Predominantly, their diet is composed of small mammals such as rodents and rabbits, but they also prey on larger mammals and birds of varying sizes. Other secondary prey can include reptiles, amphibians, fish, large insects and other assorted invertebrates.
In addition to being one of the largest living species of owl, the Eurasian eagle-owl is also one of the most widely distributed. With a total range in Europe and Asia of about 32 million km2 (12 million sq mi) and a total population estimated to be between 250,000 and 2.5 million.

Uhu (Bubo bubo) - Eurasian eagle-owl

The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of eagle-owl that resides in much of Eurasia. It is also called the European eagle-owl and in Europe, it is occasionally abbreviated to just eagle-owl.[3] It is one of the largest species of owl, and females can grow to a total length of 75 cm (30 in), with a wingspan of 188 cm (6 ft 2 in), males being slightly smaller.[4] This bird has distinctive ear tufts, with upper parts that are mottled with darker blackish colouring and tawny. The wings and tail are barred. The underparts are a variably hued buff, streaked with darker colour. The facial disc is not very visible and the orange eyes are distinctive.
The Eurasian eagle-owl is one of the largest living species of owl as well as one of the most widely distributed.[5] The Eurasian eagle-owl is found in many habitats but is mostly a bird of mountain regions, coniferous forests, steppes and other relatively remote places. It is a mostly nocturnal predator, hunting for a range of different prey species, predominantly small mammals but also birds of varying sizes, reptiles, amphibians, fish, large insects and other assorted invertebrates. It typically breeds on cliff ledges, in gullies, among rocks or in other concealed locations. The nest is a scrape in which averages of two eggs are laid at intervals. These hatch at different times. The female incubates the eggs and broods the young, and the male provides food for her and, when they hatch, for the nestlings as well. Continuing parental care for the young is provided by both adults for about five months.[6] There are at least a dozen subspecies of Eurasian eagle-owl.[7]
With a total range in Europe and Asia of about 32 million square kilometres (12 million square miles) and a total population estimated to be between 250 thousand and 2.5 million, the IUCN lists the bird's conservation status as being of "least concern".[8] The vast majority of eagle-owls live in mainland Europe, Russia and Central Asia, and an estimated number of between 12 and 40 pairs are thought to reside in the United Kingdom as of 2016, a number which may be on the rise.[9] Tame eagle-owls have occasionally been used in pest control because of their size to deter large birds such as gulls from nesting.
Miniature Pinwheel mushrooms (Marasmius sp.) residing on the forest floor celebrate the autumn rains by becoming re-hydrated from their desiccated state and resuming the release of spores.
These durable mushrooms are unusual in that the release of spores is dependent on high moisture levels.

Pitangus sulphuratus (Great Kiskadee / Bichofué gritón)
The Great Kiskadee is a large and strikingly colored flycatcher that inhabits much of Central and South America. Great Kiskadees reside in a variety of habitats from forest edges to grasslands to busy residential areas. These birds can often been seen hawking insects from an open perch or dropping to the ground feeding on insects and small reptiles.

This pair of Egyptian Geese reside in my local park and usually produce a good clutch of eggs/goslings each year.
I heard that they'd brought the newly hatched goslings over from the nesting site on an island in the middle of the lake, to the area where visitors walk. This is a risky move as people enter the park with their dogs at this point (some not on a lead) and the male swan (we only have one pair) is very protective and territorial when his mate is currently sitting on her nest.
Sadly there were initially ten yesterday, but only seven on my count this morning.
I went to the park early hoping to find them. When I arrived Mum was keeping them all warm. Then 2 dogs arrived across the water inlet where they were and this disturbed them. Thankfully another visitor was feeding them with seeds so I got some good photos.

A PLACE WITH NO NAME
The beauty of the world lies not only in these grandiose places that amaze us all.
The most beautiful and touching manifestations are often revealed to us in these simple unpretentious natural harmonies, which are often found in places without a name, away from the busiest roads.
And it is there, far from the crowds and the incessant noise of the world, that we can hear and feel, in its simplest expression, the music of our origins.

On my way home from a meeting, the timing was ideal to capture a sunset. This is part of Davis Bay in the District of Sechelt where I live. I was traveling from Gibsons which is approximately 25 minutes away and knew that clouds were on the horizon.
Sometimes knowing where you live and the conditions present, can put you in a favourable position to catch what you are looking for. Enormous tree trunks that have wondered from log booms, dot the shoreline. At high tide, they dominate the shoreline and prove to frame this sunset image in a pleasing manner.

As much as I adore the liquid element, I reside at a place where it is is considered a rather scarce commodity and can hardly be located ... I love using my tripod and my ND (Neutral Density) filters over my lenses ... Their combined use enhances considerably the appropriate shutter speed for a balanced exposure, thus blurring water's flow and creating beautiful sharp images .... Environmental colors remain unaltered ...

The Queen butterfly (Danaus gilippus) is one of three milkweed butterflies that reside in the state of Florida, along with Monarchs and Soldiers. The Queen butterfly is native to both North and South America and is a member of the Nymphalidae or brush-foot family. The adult butterfly only appears to have 4 legs as the last 2 insect legs are very small and are located near the butterfly's head. As adults, these delightful butterflies are clever mimics, utilizing Mullarian mimicry to reinforce the warning colors and distasteful qualities of several related species, gaining all species more protection from predators.
Seen less often than the ubiquitous Monarch, they can be distinguished by the darker brick red color of their wings that looks very different from the Monarch’s bright orange coloration. The topside of their wings lacks black lines that follow the veins on a Monarch’s wing.
I found this male along Joe Overstreet Road in Osceola County Florida.

Chapman Falls which resides in the Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam Connecticut is one of those spots which is listed on the Haunted Connecticut spots to visit. People have claimed to have seen orbs or heard demonic laughter in the woods, but most find it a hiking spot with a great waterfall to relax by.
From the DEEP website:
A search for the origin of the name "Devil's Hopyard" reveals a wide variety of different stories; none of them are verifiable and all are likely to be more fiction than fact. One of the most popular of these stories is about a man named Dibble, who had a garden for growing hops used in the brewing of beer. It seems that through usage, Dibble's Hopyard became Devil's Hopyard. There are records of several farmers having hopyards in the area, but there is no mention of a landowner named Dibble. However, Dibble might have been a tenant.

New-Delhi (India) - To end this series on Indian markets, a double portrait of two brothers, tomato sellers in the Paharganj district. When I am in New Delhi, I never fail to go say hi to them. We met a few years ago. They were intrigued to see me go by every day with my camera. At the time I traveled to India at least twice a year. They admitted to me that I was one of the few foreigners they were able to recognize. They even believed that I resided in India. For them, a tourist passes by and never returns. But if I am not and never will be Indian, am I really a tourist ?
