A visit to the London Transport Museum. We had to book in advance an Annual Pass, and select at time before going.
The London Transport Museum (LTM) is a transport museum based in Covent Garden, London. The museum predominantly hosts exhibits relating to the heritage of London's transport, as well as conserving and explaining the history of it. The majority of the museum's exhibits originated in the collections of London Transport, but, since the creation of Transport for London (TfL) in 2000, the remit of the museum has expanded to cover all aspects of transport in the city and in some instances beyond.
The museum operates from two sites within London. The main site in Covent Garden uses the name of its parent institution, and is open to the public every day, excluding over Christmas, having reopened in 2007 after a two-year refurbishment. The other site, located in Acton, is the London Transport Museum Depot and is principally a storage site of historic artefacts that is open to the public on scheduled visitor days throughout the year.
The museum also runs a programme of guided tours, Hidden London, which takes visitors to part of the London Underground that are typically closed to the public, including disused stations and wartime shelters.
The museum was briefly renamed London's Transport Museum to reflect its coverage of topics beyond London Transport, but it reverted to its previous name in 2007 to coincide with the reopening of the Covent Garden site.
In July 2024, the Museum unveiled new branding in an attempt to reflect its coverage of all of London's transport system, not exclusively buses and trains. The new logo - still of roundel design - incorporates all the colours of TfL's transport modes.
The museum's main facility is located in a Victorian iron and glass building that had formed part of the Covent Garden vegetable, fruit and flower market. It was designed as a dedicated flower market by William Rogers in 1871 and is located between Russell Street, Tavistock Street, Wellington Street and the east side of the former market square. The market moved out in 1971, and the building was reopened as the London Transport Museum on 28 March 1980. The collection had been located at Syon Park since 1973 and before that had formed part of the British Transport Museum at Clapham.
On 4 September 2005 the museum closed for a £22 million refurbishment designed by Bryan Avery of Avery Associates Architects to enable the expansion of the display collection to encompass the larger remit of TfL which administers all forms of public transport. Enhanced educational facilities were also required. The museum reopened on 22 November 2007.
The entrance to the museum is from the Covent Garden Piazza. The museum is within walking distance from both Covent Garden Underground station and Charing Cross railway station.

Future Engineering
The discharge paper relates to the mail ship Orivia built in 1897 and relates to the period betwen June and August 1900.
The Orivia sank on the 12 January 1912 after striking the Billy Rock in the Falklands Ireland. The crew, passengers and mail were saved by two tug boats. It’s not known if Alexander was on board the ship, his daughter Patricia never referred to it.
Alexander was born in 1862 in Price St Birkenhead was the eldest of 8 children. He did not complete his education but ran away to sea. He became a Bosun in the Merchant Navy and sailed around the world going to China for Tea and around Cape Horn to Valparaiso Chile to collect Guano. Alexander had retired when Patricia was born and she remembers her father as a quiet and gentle man who spent the evenings with her telling stories about his adventures and bought her comics from the back of Birkenhead Market.
Alexander died in 1945 of Pneumonia in the Workhouse Hospital Birkenhead.
Aleander’s father was Gilbert (Gabriel) McKellar who was born in 1839 at Levinside Terrace Dumbarton and died in 1904 Priory St. Birkenhead. In Liverpool Gilbert worked first in the ship-yards in Liverpool then went to work in the John Lairds shipyard in Birkenhead which had moved from the Wallasey tidal inlet to the River Mersey foreshore.
The father of Gilbert was Daniel who was a Shipwright and in Dumbarton the shipyards there constructed Clipper ships like the Cutty Sark; these ships were both sleek and fast and used to convey high value cargo from India and China.
Daniel McKellar moved with his 5 children to Gilbert House Howard St Liverpool, after his wife, Helen died in 1848.
Alexander’s mother was Margaret Roberts who was born in 1831 – Llanelidan Denbighshire and died in 1918 at 13 Priory St. Birkenhead. The parents of Margret were Robert Roberts from Clocaenog and Jane Patry from Llanelidan and Robert was a Hill farmer.
The sister of Margaret was Alice who married the brother of Gilbert, Alexander and they all lived with their families in various houses around St Mary’s Church.
Natural light from a candle emphasizes the similarities between the natural appearance of leather and the light surface texturing applied to the plastic. With the flowing curves of its inherent geometry engaging the luxurious, protective and womb like qualities of leather in its juxtaposed cultural position in time.

Exploring the condractitory relationship between led (processed) and hesian (natural).
The led is heavy, strong, masculine but soft. He is passive and is a push over. He is dominated by the feminine, natural and flexible hesian, who is scratchy, violent and dominant.
The hesian is a violent girlfriend.
The interaction between these two leaves the led beaten and bruised.
When the led rolls over from side to side and makes contact with the hesian he is left with surface damage of varying degrees. In the photo on the left the led is pictured ontop of hesian, but still the hesian is stronger and more dominant.
A few more furnitures and accessory for my Rolleiflex 3.5F (see below for details relate d to the camera) with a couple of old-fashioned carbon-zinc 22.5V batteries from China to test the Rolleiflash and a close-up accessory Rolleinar 1 (1 diopter) in the correct bayonet dimension (RII) suitable for the Rolleiflex 3.5F with Zeiss Planar lens or Schneider-Kreuznach Xenotar 1:3.5 f=75mm.
There are 3 different filter bayonet sizes on the Rolleiflex (RI, RII, and RIII) and one should check that both optical pieces are of the correct same dimension before buying. The Rolleinar 1 permit the focusing of the Rolleiflex between 1m and 0.47m instead of the normal minimum focusing distance of 0.9m. The parallax for Heidosmat viewing lens is corrected with an integrated prism that should correctly positioned with a red dot directed up. The Rolleinar came with its original Rollei Francke & Heidecke branded leather case.
The Rolleiflash type-2 is the original one that came with the camera. It mounts to the viewing lens bayonet and is also of the correct type RII. Rolleiflashes exist also in other bayonet dimension. At now, I just tested the circuity continuation with the battery in place and also with a flash bulb mounted. When pressing the test button a small light flashes on the control window. Next step will to fire a bulb...

About the camera :
I got this stunning Rolleiflex 3.5F from a French artist near Paris, France. The camera came in it original box and leather bag with accessories and a reference book year 1955. The whole kit is in an exceptional state of conservation.
The Rolleiflex 3.5F is the model-3, or "K4F",that Rollei-Werke Franke & Heidecke produced in 50.000 units in Germany from Nov.1960 to Dec. 1964. The Rolleiflex originates from 1928 for the very first model and was produced still in a limited number until the years 2000’s. The 3.5F model 3 was available etheir with a Schneider-Kreuznak Xenotar taking lens or the Call Zeiss Planar 1:3.5 f=75mm as this camera. The Rolleiflex, that was a quality reference for many professional photographers in the 50’s for the medium-format 6X6 camera’s. Many worked both with the Leica M3 (starting from 1954) as small-format 24x36mm camera and the Rolleiflex for other appliances. The Rolleiflex remained one of the most iconic and trusted camera of all the times.
This specific 3.5F is labelled on the right side with nice badge made of enameled brass « T » « Telos » that was the exclusive first French importer of Rollei to France until 1972.
The Rolleiflex 3,5 F model 3 is equipped with the Synchro-Compur central shutter MXV CR00 with cone-wheel differential. The distance scale is only in meters here with automatic DOF indication.
Serial number with ‘3,5F’ prefix on of top name shield.
I detailed the camera and accessories and studied carefully the user manual and the book to before familiar this beauty before waiting for a quiet moment to prepare for a test film. I will not trust the old leather original neck strap to carry this precious machine on the field to avoid the real risk to drop the camera. I ordered a new one from a manufacturer in China.
