Peaks of the Livingston Range (Glacier National Park) reflect in the North Fork Flathead River at sunrise.

This weekend I had the good fortune to spend a couple of nights in Ford Cabin, across the river from Glacier and just south of Canada. We had spectacular weather that included this Sunday morning sunrise in 10 degree weather that frosted the trees and colored the skies.

A patient ambush predator, the ‘auku’u, or black-crowned night heron, motionlessly anticipates the perfect moment for a precision strike to catch a fish or crustacean. The ‘auku’u is a well-adapted to a variety of aquatic habitats, from protected upland watersheds to urban drainage channels to ocean side tide pools. This one inhabits a reed bordered salt marsh. The red eyes are stunningly captivating!

Too vibrant, perhaps, but couldn't resist seeing the reflection off the windows. Confused you, didn't it? Try and work out where all the reflections came from, it's really fun.

For the COTC pool, my most faved photo...

Here is another set of Sandhill Crane images captured at the Bosque Del Apache and the Ladd S Gordon Wildlife refuges in New Mexico during the winter 2025/2026. No matter how many times I have been down there, it just never disappoints. Everyday is uniquely different and we never know what we might see or photograph. I am drawn to the Sandhill cranes that spend the winter on these two refuges. I love everything about them.

I have a few other shots of Scotney Castle too, that you can see here

This shot was taken for PHOTINGO 2 - 55 Magazine
