I was hired to produce 'different' dance portraits for someone who knows I don't really shoot portraits. Since I have a background and interest in dance though and since I knew she knew what she wanted I was excited to do this. It was a lot of fun.
At last, I have a working car, a working camera and enough time off work to be able to get out and use them. With my other half out for the day with her mum, I went for a nice walk from Low Newton down to Craster and back to start to get the hang of the new Hi-Tech hard grads I got recently.
As with all new techniques, I had a few teething problems (most of my shots have blown highlights on the sea near the horizon - next time I shall have to use a soft grad to balance the reflections) but I am really pleased with the way it lets you keep detail in the sky right down to the horizon.
This is one of the rock pools down near Dunstanburgh castle where the weather was studiously avoiding letting me get the shot I wanted of the castle. Every time I went back to the spot I wanted, the sun disappeared behind a cloud for another half hour!

Katavi National Park is the third largest national park in Tanzania. It is very remote and less frequently visited than other Tanzanian national parks. The park is approximately 4,471 square kilometers (1,726 sq mi) in area. The park encompasses the Katuma River and the seasonal Lake Katavi and Lake Chada floodplains.
The number of annual visitors to the park is extremely low, just above 1,500 foreign visitors out of a total 900,000 registered in the whole Tanzania National Parks system during 2012/13.
Wildlife includes large animal herds, particularly of Cape Buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and elephants, plus along the Katuma river, crocodiles and hippopotami which upon annual dry seasons results in mudholes that can be packed with hundreds of hippos.
The hippo pools of Katavi has been on my bucket list for some time. This October we finally did it on a fleeting 3 night stop over on the way to Mahale. Unfortunatly the time you can spend there is dictated by the twice a week flights, unless you drive, that operate on Mondays and Thursdays.

we set off late on monday afternoon to go see if Rauceby Asylum was accessible...friends of ours had been recently and managed to walk straight into the 'building site"...several of the buildings are being demolished but they haven't gotten around to some of the others...this is the pick of that days selfies because it sort of places me in my dilapidated surroundings where the others from that day didn't.
Water reflections of the backs of homes in Amiens, I just like the way the reflections came out, like they had been painted!
