Bucket List Shot... Almost. We had a great photography class today. After which I took the kids out to the beach to chase the sunset. One of my "bucket list" shots has always been to capture a silhouette of a wide open cast net with a fiery sunset behind it. The sunset wasn't quite what I hoped for, but this one was a fair start toward the bucket list :).

I was finally able to slip out and get some photographic proof that our Gulf Shores Eagles are sitting on their nest. It was great to have some sunshine today too.
January Photography Class:
Lovely Lizards will be hosting a 2-Day photography class, taught by Lovely Lizards Photographer, Roger Reetz. The class will be an intensive 10-12 hour study, starting with “this is a camera” and going MUCH deeper from there. We will be covering such topics as composition, portraits, nature photography, existing light photography, landscapes, going manual, wildlife photography, photo editing apps, and much more. It will be beneficial for both “Point and Shoot” and DSLR camera owners but will have a heavy focus on using a DSLR camera. Weather permitting; we will also get some hands on practice with taking pictures outdoors.
The course will be held at the Orange Beach Golf Center on Canal Road, on Saturday, January 11th, from 9-4ish and Sunday, January 12th, from 1-8ish. The cost of the class is $75 We will break for lunch on Saturday, but please bring a bag lunch for Sunday. For more information or to register for the class, please go to lovelylizardsphotography.weebly.com/photography-classes.html.

This is a followup to the photo I posted yesterday of the male Cooper's Hawk. This lovely female is feasting on a tasty dove (I think). The next set of photos I post will explain how I know which is male and which is female :).

Right there on the dinner table and everything!!! After they were done, the male was looking rather proud of himself and the female went back to eating. Please try to keep your comments PGish :).

I always love photos like this one, where the parents are looking down at their egg(s). You really have to wonder what is going through their eagle minds.

There is an old saying that says, "Don't bite the talon that feeds you". I think this baby might need to learn that lesson.

It always angers me to see little ones growing up, surrounded by trash. Please stop littering.

One of my favorite flowers, the Water Lilly. I think part of the reason I like it is because you have to go to alligator and snake field marshes to find it :).

And the theme of the day is spiders! I was trying to get a silhouette of this Golden Silk Spider, but it's pretty yellow legs wouldn't comply. Despite common belief, these are not "banana spiders".

This is one of the harder birds to get good pictures of,in our area. It is a Pied-billed Grebe and does not like it when you get close. Just about the time you get ready to take a picture it ducks under water and swims far away. This one was unusually cooperative.

Everyone loves babies. This nest is just outside the Campground at Gulf State Park. I truly hate seeing the trash in it.

This is one more shot from last week's storm. I sent it to WKRG's John Nodar to ask about the fine line along the right side. I asked him if it was maybe the leading edge of a lightning strike. He was kind enough to respond with the following.
"Your theory is most likely correct. You may already know this, but lighting arrives in two parts: a thin, sometimes invisible leader stroke finds a path from the cloud to the ground and the main bolt follows that channel back into the cloud. Great, pictures, Roger!
John Nodar"
