It was too unstable- with the 130 pounds of GLASS -

so I reEngineered it,

Playing with this picture. I remember the day I took this photo like it was yesterday. But it was a year and a month ago! Time flies when you're flickering!

i wanted to include this one from 2008 in the new train yard project but the original never had that compelling, eggleston-ian red that it should have. now that i know what i'm doing in RAW processing, "it's a lot closer to my original vision" as george lucas would say.

man it makes me sad to tag this with the Tokina 17mm lens. it's probably the last time i'll get to do that; the 17mm was stolen along with the 7D and the 300. the chances of finding another used copy are slim, but maybe insurance will come through.

Back in 2009 I think, I discovered a programme called LDD (Lego Digital Designer). It allowed me an almost limitless supply of Lego bricks to create virtual structures. I was instantly taken back to my 5th birthday when I got my first Lego fire engine.

Having evolved a pronounced interest in all things roboty (is that a word?) my preference was for mechanised creations. One of my earliest I called "spider bot" and it was a multi-limbed agent working for a group known as the Space Skulls (which is a theme created by Lego themselves).

My construction techniques and knowledge of the programme were limited back then, so this is not representative of my best work, but I'm still fairly impressed with the results.

Some time later (around 2011 I believe) I went back and reinvented the design using new techniques I had developed since. The results I referred to as the Spiderbot redux and this is the result.

Lego, Lego Digital Designer and Space Skulls are trade marks of LEGO Company, Spiderbots are an original concept by Steven J Hilton (aka Andros (pittstop) Tempest)

This is my first attempt at redoing a LEGO set. This along with the Tri-Star Voyager are a couple of my all time favourite sets. I suppose because they were among the very first sets that I ever had.

I have tried to incorporate as many features and parts of the original as possible. I did change the front end lights from red to yellow as I prefer the yellow and thought the red looked a bit weird at this size.

I made some changes and alterations to my earlier Siberian desktop (also uploaded on here). Icons are now individually placed rather than grouped and each open programs as before. The three icons at the bottom open/minimise the bars for battery power/CPU usage and RAM.

- Wallpaper is from gallery.artofgregmartin.com/wallpapers/index2006.html

- Chip Clock in the top left is from here

- Icons from here

a variation of this.
