This is a shot of a dessicating lemon that I cut to use in my tea. I was shooting all kinds of objects on the counter for no particular reason. This photo was slated for deletion and then that's when I got the idea to play with layers and channels in Photoshop to see if I could save it.
Here is the original: www.flickr.com/photos/phillykevflicks/212177704/
The frame after this shot made Explore and got a lot of views. I titled it 'Thunderbird Doe'. I just processed this somewhat comical shot of the deer scratching its jaw. A close look reveals this is not a doe, but a young buck. Not only do I misidentify birds ..... Still a good lookin' young fellow with some great evening light in the Cross Timbers.

The colorful hat reminded me of the grand old Hollywood film star, Carmen Miranda (Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha, 1909-1955), as I photographed this lady at the 40th Annual LGBT Pride Parade in San Francisco, California. For those who've never heard of Carmen Miranda, she was a Brazilian samba singer and Broadway actress popular in the 1940's and 50's. Miranda was recognized for her signature fruit hat outfit that she wore in the 1943 movie 'The Gang's All Here'. She made a total of fourteen Hollywood films between 1940 and 1953 and was dubbed "The Brazilian Bombshell". Miranda was also the inspiration for Chiquita Banana and countless drag queen reviews. She died in 1955 at the age of 46.
My photography class was interested in shooting slow speed water shots of the St. Charles dam. I made a shot a few years ago (posted in the comments) and took the opportunity to try again. I like this version better.

Eurobricks Mini Technic Competition.
Make a Technic model no more than 200 parts.
This one is now 209 parts. It is possible to reduce the 9 parts, but the rules state that it has to be a mini model. So I'm going to build this one outside the competition and make it look a bit better.
Everett hangs out in Greektown and sleeps on the steps of St. Mary's. I took his picture surreptitiously once but he hasn't let me photograph him. I ran into him outside of Pizza Pappalis after the Exposure.Detroit safari this past Sunday and said hello. He said, "Hey it's my little friend" and asked if I wanted to take his picture so I did. I also gave him a couple bucks to go get something to eat. He said he was in the hospital a few weeks ago but was feeling fine that day. I remembered seeing him a month or two ago walking around in clothes from the hospital because he left before he was discharged. I was glad to see he had some good boots on because he was barefoot in the summer.
VISIO. redux | Release

Closeup of the handmade gear. The gear-teeth are cut on my lathe. Then the 2d shapes are cut for the gears-pokes, and a Foredom tool is used to sculpt them into the finished form.
I was asked why I shot the other Mars image upside down, I have no good answer for that plus I wanted to try again with better shadows and lines so here it is, Mars Redux.

"Redux" means I'm revisiting selected pics from a previous series, in order to bring them some personal attention in the post processing that they missed the first time around.
In what I think of as a Swiss orange.
Thanks to Ellen Schinderman for the inspiration.

I recently inadvertently deleted many photos from my photostream. I've been trying to retrieve as many of them as I could - it hasn't been easy... Like this one, I've marked the 'deleted' photos as 'redux'. I lost all of the information that goes with a photo, including the faves and comments I received. I'm merely putting them back in my photostream so they are not lost forever. I've turned off the comments for each of them.

follow-up from yesterday... turning the power on the monoblock down to ~4 watt seconds and the iso up to 1600 did the trick. no more motion blur.
well, that killed two nights of wintery cold darkness...
If I didn't know better, I'd swear it's the same flower from four years ago...
At least I'm consistent.
Strobist info: bare YN-685 in left hand, YN-622TX on camera. Probably 1/16 or 1/32 power just for a little fill.
It seems that the devil's own fruit of temptation has grown horns for it's return to the stream.
