Window to the world. Part 2 in the re-vsion of former images.

You may have seen this shot a couple days ago. It's one I took almost two years ago from our vacation in Britain (I brought it forward to make a comment about a new Flick group).

Looking through those 2-year old photos was a fun experience! I saw things I did then that I would have done differently now (and in particular I was pretty 'heavy handed' with the vignette back then) but for the most part the photos still 'spoke' to me, and it was great to re-live the moment!

I did find myself wondering though "what if..." What if... I had done this.. or done that... or what would the shot look like with a different treatment. That curiosity, combined with the fun of reliving the moment, is what gave me the idea for "Redux Sunday" where I think, on Sundays, I'll take an older shot and maybe 're-work' it a bit, with a creative or in some way different treatment, reviving some old memories with a fresh look!

So... Happy Redux Sunday! :D

Arghhhhh - can't seem to find any flickr or photography time lately. Will definitely get out over this long weekend and catch up with everyone! Thanks for all your patience with my slowness!! :o)

We went back the the new 6,000 sq. ft pavilion today. It is now open at Esquimalt’s Gorge Park. Not as crowded today as on opening day.

Missed playing Elethor.

Cleaned up an older shot with some retakes.

If you look carefully, you may notice very small caterpillar (Mint Caterpillar Pyrausta aurata) between 3rd and 4th mint flower.

I was looking for an inspiration for the topic "In the row", trying to move these flowers in order to get a better light, when all of the sudden I've noticed her - showing up out of nowhere. At that moment I've decieded to chose her as the center of my inspiration and I've put this photo in the group. www.flickr.com/photos/138807894@N02/29455047073/in/datepo...

I was very sorry that I couldn't place both photos last time, however today's topic made me very happy bacause I can share both of them with you.

This one for redux. It could fit in three different themes. pareidolia , eyes, and corner. Have a wonderful 2018 everone. HMM

It was always going to be all natural as the theme of the week, but what subject? Trusty welsh poppy once again came to the rescue. There were two further flowers that I could have used, one was very dog eared and beaten. I was surprised that there were the three flowers, but then it’s been very mild thus far this winter.

It is wrinkled and crinkled as well, but safer to stick with all natural.

Thanks for stopping HMM

For "Macro Mondays" ; theme : "Redux 2021" ; Circles and Holes .

This theme ("Green" from November) chose me. We bought some sprouts and the one green sprout amongst the purple ones was just asking to be used.

Never settle until it's your best.

Japanese Quince blooming in early January. We normally don't see this until March but apparently, we are living in a new normal. Thanks for the look and have a great evening.

Did some funky Photoshopping on this, a bit more (or maybe less) than the usual supersaturated, hyperreal HDR fad that seems to be catching on like wildfire. It's kind of a little bit HDR, a little bit toned, a bit of layer fun.

As mentioned in the previous pic: Chizuko and the boys went back to Japan during Spring Break whilst I stayed back in SoCal to do absolutely *nothing* ;-)

They got to experience the Cherry Blossom season and I didn't :-(

So...best I can do is live through my photo history of such times...History Redux pic of Cherry Blossoms ten (10) years ago at Komazawa Park (adjacent where we lived).

It's winter and nothing is going on ... delving into the files and playing with old shots. Looking forward to spring as I'm counting down the remaining days until the winter solstice. I don't look forward to the 'holidays' as much as I do the end of short periods of daylight. Rough Blazing Star on the prairie at Quincy Bluff in Adams County, Wisconsin, USA

ABOUT THE REDUX: OK, it's not REALLY a redux. This was actually the first-go at processing this image (and I think maybe the one I prefer). The one earlier in the stream I did after, with a more 'conventional' treatment for the F64 group.

ABOUT THE WACKY COMP: Yeah, it's a bit odd, though deliberate. :) I wanted to use the ropes to divide the frame in three, with the left-most third as pure negative space. I wanted the model to be on the line of the right third as a point of interest, with most of her to the right with the hopes that the line dividing her would sort of give the feel of how, internally, we all often feel 'divided', 'torn', or have different aspects to ourselves. I wanted the line to cross her face, eye, nose and corner of her mouth in that way to give it a slight, subtle, uncomfortable feeling. It was an experiment. I don't know if it worked. I'm sure there were probably better ways to express that mood or feeling, but I like to experiment, for me it's an important part of how I learn!! :D

Wishing everyone a great Sunday!

HMBT!

The G'taari Hover Scorpion is a bit of a misnomer. Although the scorpion's lightweight body contains many hydrogen-filled cavities, it cannot actually hover. Extremely fine, hairlike tentacles extend from the underside of the cephalothorax, propping the featherweight arthropod up and allowing it to grasp and pull itself at an astonishing rate to silently ambush prey. The Hover Scorpion also has an excellent defense from higher predators: when threatened, the microtentacles will bunch up and launch it in an astonishingly high jump; up to a dozen meters. Due to its minimal weight, the scorpion can stay airborne for several minutes if it stretches out its feathery microtentacles to increase air resistance. While an effective tactic against ground predators, it leaves the Hover Scorpion helplessly floating in plain sight for quite a while, a perfect target...

Hello all.

Seem familiar?

Prompted by Mike Doyle's Beautiful Lego 3, I've redone my mantoid wyvern with new pieces and over a year's worth of reflection. It is mostly unedited per contest rules, but I couldn't help removing the support. (I can certainly provide a completely unedited version if you wish, Mike.)

The changes aren't massive, but I do feel it's been improved, mostly structurally. The old one was much flimsier. I'll list the modifications for anyone who cares:

1.) A new base, obviously. The old one was effective enough, I think, but not really a base. Anyway, I tried out the newfangled rockwork that everyone seems to be raving about these days.

2.) The tail has been redesigned with purple SNOT bricks from the Cinderella carriage set. A bit chubbier than the old tail, but far less inconsistent colorwise.

3.) I implemented purple tooth pieces from the Jaw beast set where I saw fit.

4.) Four prongs per wing, and a restructuring of the connections in the wings to the body using mixel joints to strengthen it. Way, way stronger connection.

5.) 1x2 purple slopes for the wings and crest, 1x2 purple plates for the face and other areas, and 1x2 purple jumpers for the midsection.

6.) Trans-neon-green eyes. I didn't really want to change them, but when they're trans-green they show up very, very dark and desaturated in photos, which requires extensive editing to fix. However, I'm actually liking it better now. The 1x2 plates give the illusion of an iris, which I think gives old mandible mouth a bit more character. :D

I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize for being such a n00bish, self-promotional idiot on the old photo. I haven't changed the description because if I was stupid enough to post that when I had all the time in the world to think about whether it was professional or not, I deserve to reap eternal embarrassment.

Keith Goldman of The Brothers Brick bestowed a fittingly ironic punishment by referencing my n00bishness when he blogged it. I'm very grateful to him for helping pound a bit of narcissism out of me.

Finally, you may notice that Brick Productions has recently commented on the old photo, calling me a "w00b". He's right, and I've called him that enough times to deserve it. XD

tough bastards

Some folks wanted to see this bridge up close under this light and some folks wanted to see this bridge at dark. This is as dark as I am comfortable with because there are a couple of pubs behind me (and one in front of me off camera) with the lager louts paying too much interest in my work.

Apologies to other folks if this bridge shows up too much in my stream; I work within 10 minutes walking distance of it and I live within 30 minutes walking distance so it's quite tempting to try and shoot it under different conditions.

This is a 52 second exposure; I much prefer a later one I took with a longer exposure but this one has the blur of a red bus which makes it slightly more interesting and the other did not.
