Trawling through one of the external hard drives and I found this beauty I took last year. This is a Harmonia axyridis that took a shine to my LED video light, it just plonked itself down and seemed quite contented, so I tried some different coloured cards which gave quite a nice effect, this is not in a studio this was in the middle of woodland at Colwick. This is a single shot exposure using an F/8 aperture :o)
Talking of Harlequins, I got one of my images used on a superb BBC website article about Harlequin Ladybirds, it's the main title image :o)

DUMBO stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. It was a nice day, so I walked from lower Manhattan to Brooklyn where can clearly see the Empire State Building in the crosshairs of the the bridge's abutment.
The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan at Canal Street with Downtown Brooklyn at the Flatbush Avenue Extension. The main span is 1,470 ft (448 m) long, with the suspension cables being 3,224 ft (983 m) long. The bridge's total length is 6,855 ft (2,089 m). This is one of four toll-free bridges spanning the East River; the other three are the Queensboro, Brooklyn, and Williamsburg Bridges.
The bridge opened to traffic on December 31, 1909. It was designed by Leon Moisseiff, and is noted for its innovative design. As the first suspension bridge to employ Josef Melan's deflection theory for the stiffening of its deck, it is considered to be the forerunner of modern suspension bridges and this design served as the model for many of the long-span suspension bridges built in the first half of the twentieth century.

With the arborists at work, a section of tree allows hours of fun at the macro level... Here's where it broke away as they were cutting it, hence a chance to revisit the June 26 theme Broken
so to speak, anyway. i cut out and stamped new labels for my card catalog in bright happy colors that just happen to be my favorites (orange, red, green and yellow). i've been meaning to do this for some time. for those who might be curious, i keep art and sewing supplies in my card catalog. no, the bars do not get in the way. also, i got it a community college auction years ago. good luck finding one (that's aimed at those who ask everytime they see a photo of it! heh.)!

In 1955 , the 'capless' flash bulb was introduced by the Philips company (from the Netherlands) . An adapter was necessary to make it possible to use these cheaper bulbs in flasholders with a so-called 'bayonet fitting' .

This portrait of Santa is a macro of the centrepiece of our 2022 Christmas Cake, created by my very dear and talented wife. The whole cake is a shot along on my photostream. All is edible, apart from his specs. Must remember that.
The photo was taken as shown, window lit, using a 12mm extension tube. Red and green colour channels were boosted and a vignette and a colourful background added

Venus Rising - Redux
This is a re-edit of a photo from a year ago. Venus, the bright object in the sky that looks like a star and casting light on the ocean, was rising along side the Galactic Center of the Milky Way early last year. I wasn't happy with the original edit, it had some color balancing I didn't like and some blend problems. My goal was to re-do the color balance so it was more natural but the natural colored sky in this shot was a pale brown-orange due to light pollution to the south, so I cooled it down again and made it blue. Not quite the real color but it looks a whole lot more pleasing and dramatic. I'm still not 100% happy with it, maybe I'll edit it again in another year...

I recently inadvertently deleted many recent photos from my photostream. I've been trying to retrieve as many of them as I could - it hasn't been easy... Like this one, I've marked the 'deleted' photos as 'redux'. I lost all of the information that goes with a photo, including the faves and comments I received. I'm merely putting them back in my photostream so they are not lost forever. I've turned off the comments for each of them.

Olly the not so jolly Jester.
Hans - House Guard
Horace of Wentworth is a knight Paladin in the service of King Otto. He combines martial prowess with powerful magic.
Queen Besra is the fairest lady in the land, her beauty is only matched by her faith in the Kings mission to bring peace and justic to the realm.
King Otto is a man of scrupulous principles. He has bought peace to the five kingdoms and now seeks to eradicate the scourge of the Fright Knights (coming soon).
Gazandor the powerful is the anointed chief of the magic pentagon. An order of wizards responsible for safeguarding mankind from the evil lords of the night.
Hans and Uli are loyal house guards who serve their king.
Bertrand (dressed in ceremonial finery) is a ranger and gamekeeper for The van Oberhausens.
Olly the not so jolly is the worlds shittiest jester. He despises his job and constantly complains about both his costume and the dumb makeup. People think he is joking and find it hilarious. It's a vicious circle of misery.

ABOUT THIS IMAGE
Heart Hill - Redux
After 3 years of more experience and updated software I took a look at this image again and revised it into a monochrome.

Heart Hill lies on the property of the Niner Winery along side of Highway 46 in the middle of the Paso Robles Wine country in the Central Coast of California. In 2013 Paso Robles was chosen one of the best wine regions of the world. Oak Trees form the "Heart" which can only be seen from a certain angles.

Thunder Hole - Redux
Acadia National Park, Maine
I posted another version of this shot recently but I'm not happy with it anymore, so I started from scratch and re-processed it. Originally I pushed the image heavily towards blue to take out a lot of the green airglow color out of the sky, but this time I chose to feature a more natural colored sky, I still punched it up a bit for contrast, but the green glow in the sky is real, it is from airglow (see below for description). The sky doesn't look like this to your eye at night but the camera is capable of seeing much more light during a long exposure, so the actual colors of the sky come out in the photographs.
Airglow is a natural phenomenon that occurs high up in the atmosphere as molecular particles emit light when they react to scattered radiation from the sun and various other chemical interactions.
This is a blend of 3 main images, but technically 7 exposures. The sky is made up of 5 exposures at ISO 6400 f/2.8 for 10 seconds each, which are then stacked with Starry Landscape Stacker (available for Mac only, but you can do this in Photoshop) to achieve pinpoint stars and lower noise than a single ISO 3200 shot for 25 seconds would have yielded. The foreground is from two other exposures, 1 at ISO 1600 f/2.8 for 20 minutes, and another at ISO 1600 f/5.6 for 30 seconds with light painting with a flashlight on the rocks and green seaweed in the bottom part of the foreground. All shots were at 14mm, using my Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens on my Nikon D800E.
You can read much more about my process in my tutorial "Introduction to Landscape Astrophotography" on the Luminous Landscape website: www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/night_sky___astrophotog...
Starry Landscape Stacker is available in the Mac App Store.

Well, I've been wanting to re-process this one for ages. It's a favorite of mine from one of the first times I tried night shooting. I still like the old one better, though, except for the barrel distortion.
This was done using a customized Batman action figure, the McFarlane Headless Horsemen display stand, a light tent, and my beloved Cutout feature on Photoshop.
