NEOBALLS / ZEN MAGNETS - Neodymium Magnetic Balls (@4205) - Starcraft II's Massive Thor
This is my most complex and largest build to date.
It was designed in parts: Cockpit body, then legs, then arms, then rear guns. Then I had to redesign parts when it came time to assemble it together because of incorrect bonding assumptions and misalignment of magnet fields.
Experimented with x-beam coupled bonds to get the maximum lateral strength with reinforcements on the sides. This proved to be very string. Created a X-Beam using similar methods producing a very strong leg structure. It was capable of support the entire weight of the cockpit body w/o a problem. Had to redesign the leg to cockpit body mount point from the earlier concept because the bond was not completely coupled.
Next up were the arm/guns ... the weight was too much for the cockpit body to support so I fashioned a pair of lego-platforms for them to rest on and take the weight off of the central body.
Finally ... the rear guns ... these were a challenge in that their original mount point design had to be reworked also to make them fit correctly into the rear of the cockpit body. I changed the mount points on the guns to fit the space on both sides and added a few support balls to improve the mount point bonds. I was very surprised how they were balanced and supported only by two point sections to the body. The guns stayed in place for a small series of photos.
The design flaw was in the side bonds of the beam to the legs. The coupled field held nicely for a short amount of time and would have held if it didn't have the weight of the rear guns to support. When they were standing upright and straight, all was good. As soon as I attempted to move the platform forward (to take a video), the rear guns tilted slightly backwards and and that was the end of the leg to body support bonds ... and created the dreaded implosion.
The rear gun weight caused the entire central body section to rotate backwards and fall back on the rear guns ... taking the arms in the process. Perhaps I should have created a Lego-support structure for the rear guns to remove the pendulum force backwards ... but that would have created another view blocker like the side Lego-platforms obstructed the view of the legs and feet. Not sure if I can recreate it for a rotational video ... this took over a week (on/off to design and assemble).
Overall ... I was very happy with the result ... hope I captured enough detail to warrant some visual recognition as a Starcraft II Thor reproduction/interpretation.

My Pokémon Safari is a set dedicated to me searching for all the wonderful Pokémon from my childhood as I design posters from the 1st Generation Pokémon.
What if it were in your power to design something as elegant as a piece of fruit and not just any fruit, something as iconic as an Apple?
How would you design a better Apple? What is its central function? I would say the central function of an Apple is to provide sweet fruit in bite sized, hand friendly morsels. A poor designer might start off by making the fruit bigger, giving everyone watermelon sized Apples. Bigger is better, right? At least that's what you would think, but what happens when someone wants to toss the bigger Apple in lunch box so their kids can eat one at school? Now you have a problem. Watermelon sized Apples won't fit in a lunch box. A watermelon sized Apple won't even fit in the briefcase or purse that you take to work.
So you go back to the drawing board and you come up with another idea. You want your newly improved Apple to be easier to carry, so you add something that resembles a cup handle, but the new handle breaks very easily (as it is made of fibrous materials) and the people that buy your new Apples invariably resort to holding them as they hold normal Apples, in such a way that a handle just gets in the way.
And what about the core of the Apple, where all the seeds are? Wouldn't it be cool if the core was removable? So you design your Apple so that the core comes pre-sliced, so that the outer fruity layer just slides right off. As a consequence, your newly designed Apple falls apart in the user's hands and they don't hang well from trees.
The metaphor above illustrates the problem inherent in making a device that competes with Apple's iconic iPhone. Apple's success with the iPhone has less to do with the engineers and programmers at rival companies being dumb or lazy and more to do with the fact that Apple has stripped the idea of a smartphone to its bare essentials. I came to this conclusion while playing around with my new iPod Touch yesterday. A competing designer's first compulsion might be to add stuff the iPhone doesn't have: a bigger screen, another keyboard, a removable battery, but that's exactly where most competitors fall into a trap.
As illustrated in the Apple metaphor, the bigger screen may be more appealing, but now the device may not fit easily in a pocket. A "hard" keyboard is redundant with the "soft" keyboard and the lid of a removable battery might just as easily fall off or soften the integrity of the entire phone. For every new hardware feature you add to the design, you create another layer of complexity.
It is no wonder then that the most potent message that rival companies like Verizon have been able to come up with are mostly about the cell network.

Hawking the power of Verizon's network is equivalent to moving the tree that makes the apple in our scenario above to a more fertile field, so that the juice becomes a bit more sweeter than the one on AT&T's branch.
Whether it's one-way signage in hospital corridors, ambassadors screening patients and staff at facility entrances, work stations and eating/break areas being redesigned with physical distancing in mind, outdoor emergency department triage areas, COVID-19 drive-through testing sites, or a variety of other measures, our staff have demonstrated flexibility and innovation as we have adapted to the challenges presented by the pandemic.

New design of hall bath. The area where toilet is located now was a closet in the old bedroom. Because we are using the bedroom for stairs up to 2nd story, the closet was sitting as dead space. Finally noticed the issue. Toilet was plumbed where the L is for linen closet. Had to open up the closet and move toilet plumbing over to other side
A few weeks ago, that great guy Memory posted this on Flickr. He had used only the parts from set 8958 to create a custom model thingy.
I had the set, so I thought 'hey, why not?'. And also, I wanted to built something other than a boring old tractor, which pretty much everyone has built. I wanted to experiment with the tracks, so I wrapped one around three wheels (a tight fit), then built around that. You wouldn't believe how few goddamn pieces that set has. But I did it: a MineBike (sure, it's a little close to my made-up minecycle a few weeks ago, but that's all I can describe this as). The MineBike is intended for fast reconaissance missions (due to its small ground contact), but it also has a hook thingy for connecting big trays. Enjoy!

The 20 spot from a redesigned set of US currency. Each bill has a brightly-colored holographic strip embedded into it which contains the denomination. Designed by Michael Tyznik and I think they're great.
Again. The actual processing plant stayed pretty much the same, but I redid the Sorting System. Sadly I can't stack chests anymore but now I have the Logistics Pipes Add-On for BuildCraft, I was able to place a Provider Pipe under every chest which then feeds into a bunch of automatic crafting tables. Combined with a Request Pipe I can "order" certain items which are then automatically crafted. I got the idea from Direwolf20 when skimming through his Let's Play.
