Nana (Art's Mom) makes tamales every Christmas Eve. They are the most delicious treat that we all look forward to every Christmas.
This year Nana also made us some vegetarian tamales since Art is not eating meat anymore. They were very good and so thoughtful. I'll upload photos of them after I download them from my camera but I need to photograph my Christmas sugar cookies from loveberries first.

Mine and Herman's walk from Patchway to Filton,...At this point we both could have done with some food and a drink!
Taking inspiration from the Hush - Hush Kid Friendly Lasagna I made my sister, I grated a giant onion, some carrots, a red pepper, half a zucchini and 4 big cloves of garlic into two jars of my homemade tomato passata. I tossed in some home-dried tomatoes from last year's garden and added a drizzle of balsamic, and right before pureeing it smooth I stirred in fresh lemon balm from the garden!
This sauce is going to be perfect with my next lasagna's homemade ricotta-bean-spinach filling... part of it will have some "un-beef" TVP added to it and the rest will be pure and simple (or as simple as it gets at this point!)
One Day at a Time Lasagnettes with Dark and Rich Sundried Tomato Sauce
Kristen made some fantastic cheesecake for our Thanksgiving dinner this past weekend. Nice of her to make it big enough to yield plenty of leftovers for us. I just enjoyed a piece. It was delicious.
Enjoy your night!

It was a close battle, but the Burka boys eventually defeated the six pukey friends off the tv & claimed the fountain as their own, promising that they will meet here every Thursday from now on.................................................
.........................1 week later, fountain was discovered on the Burkas homepage on E-bay for a Dime
Recipe is simple- make your favorite spaghetti with sauce, pour into a greased baking dish and sprinkle with panko and vegetable margarine. Bake 400 degrees 30-40 minutes.

My grandson loves to go with his Papa and Nana to the Italian Men's Club called Sacred Heart on Thursdays where they have spaghetti for lunch each week. Here in Houston the Sacred Heart Thursday Spaghetti lunches are a tradition and it is open to the public so if you are ever in Houston on a Thursday be sure to stop by for an awesome plate of pasta, eggplant, pork chop, gizzards in pasta gravy, salad, and French bread....just ask my grandson, oh and this was a little posed...Ha Ha!!!
I pigged out today and ordered a carne asada wet burrito with red sauce and lots and lots of cheese. Yum. Started to feel fat-tastically full before I could finish it, though, so VV ate the rest for me.

Taking a page out from any small town pizzeria that’s been around since the 1950s, the upstairs split-level dining room has been repainted in creamy lemon and light green wainscots that are lined with booths, banquettes, and vintage menu art. The open kitchen has been walled off, save for a cut out window that’s kept company by an old Coca-Cola sign. Thick maple wood replaces the stainless steel surface on the room’s central bar, while cocktail tables loosely fill the space. Custom built tables with detailed legs and dark Era chairs that fill the (now) soundproof floor which has been resurfaced with mosaic tiles or hardwood. The environment is inclusive for families (changing stations have been installed in the washrooms) who might dine earlier in the day to extended hours that caters to the late night crowd. The lights dim later in the evening when the space becomes more of a cocktail bar. WiFi available.

Yeah so I had a craving tonight... this place, "The Blue Parrot" in Louisville, Colorado (Pronounce the "S" Please!) has handmade pasta, realllllly yummy bread, and all in all carbfest food. Yum.
($9/roll) – pork knuckle and ham hock terrine that’s been pressed and coated with panko crumbs then deep fried, and served in a Kaiser roll with spicy broccoli rabe, grainy mustard, and the restaurant’s home-style red sauce (sauce made from san marzano tomatoes). Available as a hero sandwich ($12) or in platter form ($17) that’s served with sides.
There are four house kegged and bottled sodas ($4) and one Boozy Brio ($9) that’s made with spiced rum, Amaro, Grand Marnier, citric acid.
It's what, the ninth day of our horrendous heat wave? And once again, I have proven that I am insane by turning on the oven...to heat up these batter-fried mushroom thingies for lunch. I have a weakness for many batter-fried food products. And I'm going to turn the oven on again later...to bake a batch of "Welcome Home" BBQ Tofu for the husband.
Salmon - Marinate salmon in orange juice, brown sugar, salt and freshly ground pepper. Grill, brushing with marinade often.
Green beans - saute green beans in olive oil for approximately five minutes, add chopped yellow tomatoes, chopped garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Saute until beans are tender.
Serve with risotto with red sauce (sorry, this portion is a family secret! I will say it includes a lot of chopped garlic and a generous amount of good, dry red wine!) The longer you cook your red sauce over low heat, the better it will taste!
Mangia!!
