A friend from the office organized a Photo Session for a personal project of his, titled "Bad Girl", and as a Photo Enthusiast I was invited to go along and take some shots on my own as we alternated with the model while the other changed lenses or adjested the camera. It was a great exercise as I was able to play for the first time with some studio-type lighting equipment.

and even though the session was centered on Bad Girl looks and attitudes, I managed to capture some nice innocent portraits of our model. Interesting that depending on the lgiht conditions her eyes can appear either blue or green.

... I will try to upload later some images of a "Good Girl gone Bad"

Years ago, an advertising agency gave me a photo assignment to produce a photo-illustration for a local sporting goods store. They wanted to clear out their over-stocked handgun inventory. The agency art director suggested I do a "Dirty Harry" pose with one of the store's .44 Magnum revolvers, but using a more traditional, handgun enthusiast as a model. My neighbor, Steve, fit that description quite well (he calls himself somewhat of a "redneck" shooter :) I photographed him in my studio on a white seamless cyc. I used a large soft box at the right as the key light, positioned to produce reflections on the gun. This is one of Royce's Way-Back Photos.

The photo ran midweek, for one day as a 1/2 page newspaper ad in the local, Salt Lake City, Utah newspaper. By the end of the week, their inventory was cleared out, including over 30 models of this revolver! The moral to this story: Know your audience, relate to them, and you'll be successful.

Fiberglass, plywood, lumber, styrofoam, formica and there's gotta be duct tape in there somewhere ... just your regular upgrade from base-level school bus to 'hippie-mobile'. We would love to have seen inside!

I would really like to revisit this tree another time. I stopped by here early in the evening and I got some nasty looks from the locals. :-/ They did not seem to be very friendly, lol.

The word over:

Redneck is a derogatory slang term used in reference to poor, uneducated white farmers, especially from the southern United States. It is similar in meaning to cracker (especially regarding Georgia and Florida), hillbilly (especially regarding Appalachia and the Ozarks), and white trash (but without the last term's suggestions of immorality).

In recent decades, the term has expanded its meaning to refer to bigoted, loutish reactionaries who are opposed to modern ways, and has often been used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal. At the same time, some Southern whites have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.

One presume this Geordie is a good old boy, just makin' his way the only way he knows how.

Its either a joke, or after reading the following you realise that its all rather inappropriate. However, one can not deny history.

"The Confederate States of America (CSA or C.S.)—commonly referred to as the Confederacy—was an unrecognized republic in North America that existed from 1861 to 1865. The Confederacy was originally formed by seven secessionist slave-holding states—South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas—in the Lower South region of the United States, whose economy was heavily dependent upon agriculture, particularly cotton, and a plantation system that relied upon the labor of African-American slaves. Convinced that the institution of slavery was threatened by the November 1860 election of Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln to the U.S. presidency on a platform which opposed the expansion of slavery into the western territories, the Confederacy declared its secession in rebellion to the United States, with the loyal states becoming known as the Union during the ensuing American Civil War. Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens described its ideology as being centrally based "upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition".

Since the end of the American Civil War, private and official use of the Confederacy's flags, and of flags with derivative designs, has continued amid philosophical, political, cultural, and racial controversy in the United States. These include flags displayed in states; cities, towns and counties; schools, colleges and universities; private organizations and associations; and by individuals.

Soooo, we have been invited to a "western-themed" wedding. Everyone is encouraged to wear jeans and cowboy boots. Sooooo, I came up with these for part of our wedding gift to the happy couple! It took about 2 hours to cut, sort out and glue the beads to the jars and stems. They include silver cowboy hats and boots with red embellishes, Mr & Mrs. bedazzelers and jute string bows. They are the first ones I made so was thoroughly happy with them. Guess what else will be going in the box?

Another hobby for me....I bought 12 jars!!
