Thank you all for your wonderful words, awards, and the group invites. I truly appreciate them all! ♥
On a Sunday afternoon, just on the edge of getting sucked into an afternoon of NFL TV, I asked my wife, Cindy, if she would like to go for a drive. First she said yes, then she said no. Then she said yes.
We took a trip to William B. Bankhead National Forest to see how the color was coming along and to see if we could see or smell any evidence of the "Big Tree" Wildfire in the Sipsey Wilderness Area of the Bankhead Forest (we could not).
Just outside the National Forest we stopped at country store where I went in and got us two "handmade" Ham Sandwiches on white bread with mayo and lettuce & tomato. Some pringles and Milo's Sweet Tea helped round out the redneck lunch.
Then on into the forest where we visited the Sipsey Wilderness Recreation Area and Brushy Lake Recreation Area.
This particular photo is from the Brushy Lake Recreation Area.

Coming back from a tasty fried shrimp dinner at Singleton's Seafood Shack (just north of Jacksonville Beach), we spied a spectacular sunset over the Naval shipyard. About the time I set up my tripod, an armada of huge pickup trucks pulled up, intrepidly going into about 12 inches of the Intracoastal Waterway. I could tell that they were locals, and that this was a not unusual thing to do. They opened their beer bottles, brought their lawn chairs into the water to enjoy the view along with us, and waded out to try some late-day cast net fishing. Ah -- the good life, and for free, too! (Who needs Ft. Lauderdale and a $50 million yacht, anyway?)
Redneck is a derogatory term mainly, but not exclusively, applied to white Americans perceived to be crass and unsophisticated, closely associated with rural whites of the Southern United States. Its meaning possibly stems from the sunburn found on farmers' necks dating back to the late 19th century.
