I am not familiar any more with the winter plumage of Red Knots, so it took a while to ID this bird, foraging among the royal Terns. . Convention Center, South Padre Island, Texas, USA. 2 November 2024

The Reds seem to have had a very good year, we've never seen so many. This one is already prepared for winter with its ear tufts! Seen at Nairn caravan park.

Summer Garden Flower Stem Plant Rose Red Outddoors Petals Green Leaves Lawn Gass Roofs

same image as the earlier gum print, but made with red pigment instead of lamp black -- I think this one would need at least one more layer (maybe a grey?) over it to work, but it's an interesting start... the exposure worked better than on the black one, you can see a bit of detail in the flower's center

This is what remains of a shot gone wrong...

Roses are perennial plants of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae. There are over 100 species. They form a group of erect shrubs, and climbing or trailing plants, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers are large and showy, in a number of colours from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and fragrance. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 7 meters in height. Species from different parts of the world easily hybridize, which has given rise to the many types of garden roses.

Red-Whiskered Bulbul, Pycnonotus jocosus, Merbah Candik

This is a resident frugivore bird found mainly in tropical Asia. It feeds on fruits and small insects and they conspicuously perch on trees and their calls are a loud three or four note call. They are very common in hill forests and urban gardens within its range.

While out shooting this weekend in Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, I happened to come across this eye-catching colour find on a table at a local cafe. Apart from some minor tweaks in PhotoShop and LightRoom, this is exactly as it appeared. I didn't even have to arrange the flower parallel to the slats of the table top.

Red Toadstool at Mallory Park

Semiahmoo, Washington State

A small, tidy farm with a re-sided gambrel barn. The house on the hill just east, to the right, of it looked very old; a sprawling, white two-story with unusual roof lines.
