Beautiful poppies taken in a field near Kingswinford, West Midlands. The Remembrance poppy is the common field poppy (Papaver rhoeas), one of the first wildflowers to colonise disturbed ground or fallow cornfields. It became identified with the battle zones of the First World War, or Flanders Fields, which were originally corn fields.

48:365 revisiting red. i can't choose between the two, so i have put them both in, i know, that's not allowed is it? well, in that case you had better help me decide which is better and then i can stick to the rules. i like number two and Paul likes number one.

Week 32 - Bokeh

Today was the hottest day on record, it reached 46.4C with hot winds swirling in all directions. There were bush fires all around Victoria and many homes have been lost. One fire was fairly close to us but seemed under control, thankfully it has cooled down quite considerably.

There is a Roseate Spoonbill that has taken up residence at Huntley Meadow Park in Fairfax County, Virginia. I celebrated the Fourth of July holiday by going to take photos of him there.

This is not a Roseate Spoonbill. It's a red-headed woodpecker that decided to fly up, land, and strike a pose just for a moment while I was waiting on the spoonbill.

Honestly, I think the woodpecker is prettier. But I'll post some spoonbill pics down the line so that you can judge!
