They were collecting anything that had the American flag on it. I had some American flag christmas tree lights, the previous tenant at my flat had left behind. I ran back home and got them, and gave them to these guys. They were very pleased, and let me take their picture. At Lombard recycling day 2005.

The metal dangles of these earrings were cut from the rim of a thrift store platter. I detail the steps at my blog cynthiamurraydesign.blogspot.com
Wire wrapped garnet rondelles connect the metal dangles to sterling earwires that have been oxidized and sanded.

America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized initiative dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. Kennedy partnered with several organizations in order to donate as many of the items as possible to those who could use them the most in the Space Coast community. Space center personnel brought in electronic waste, gently used household goods, clothing and more.

Working with trash creating one of a kind outrageous pieces of sculptures for the body... dare to wear!! I collect rubber and recycle it by constructing original pieces of wearable art for daring costumers. I have been crafting each piece, each outfit all by hand and with not patterns, no machines and no glue of any kind.
Upcycled denim skirt made from recycled jeans with sequin detail fabric circular buttons and tarten ribbon edging around the hem.
Rubbermaid Stackable Recyclers make recycling easy! Three sizes can be stacked and interchanged to suit your sorting needs. The flip door makes unloading recyclables a breeze. Stickers allow you to label your bin so you can see if you are sorting glass, paper, plastic, etc. The hood snaps securely to the base so you can transport your recyclables to a facility if necessary.

Our friend Boris and Thomas are secretly working on a plan to make money out of doghair.
This finch however has apparently caught on to our ideas and uses thomashair to make it's nest
Highly commended: Nelson Primary School - this entry also demonstrated long-term commitment to recycling and the school environment with a variety of materials collected, and involving everyone in the school. Rainforest charities have also benefitted from their efforts.

Here is a new sculpture, not in excellent health. The recycled skeleton is composed by:
A lid of cooking cut with holders of gas by way of eyes for the head,
A bike chain allowing the junction of the trunk with arms, hands made in cup-roast,
The breast consists of a bit of horse fixed to a railing of informatics aeration,
The groin is a chip-cutter in stainless steel,
The legs below dishes stretchable,
And spatulas for the feet.
DG is his name. Question: who was DG ?
I recycled this notebook out of an old, sadly but true, not so good to read novel. Now it has a new life as a beautifully flowered notebook!
My other version of this truck – with more modifications. Front, crane and legs are mostly the same (different colors due to the parts that I had available), but the truck is 4 studs longer and has a 3-chamber tipper.

I used scrap materials to make these books - everything was destined to be landfill (with two small exceptions). I used scraps of mat board to make the covers. The peach book has my handmade paper on the covers - which was made from paper scraps. For the blue book, I used a fabric remnant to make some book cloth for the cover (exception number one: the cloth was backed with mulberry paper and the mulberry paper was new).
The paper used for the pages in these books, all came from the scrap box. So a lot of the pages have some printing or images on one side. The pages are a mix of some blank papers cut off from larger projects, graph paper and lined paper from old notebooks, as well as pieces cut from old maps, card stock scraps, old photocopies, misprints from the computer printer, notebook covers, paper cut down from large envelopes, etc.
Both books are bound using an exposed chain stitch sewing - four needles for four rows of chain stitches. I believe this is the Ethiopian style of chain stitch (rather than Coptic, which is the one-needle style...please correct me if I'm wrong on this). I used two colours on the peach book to get the fun stripy thing happening (exception number two: the linen thread was new).
