Gwynne Dyer: North Korea’s nuke reality

The last time when North Korean nuclear weapons might have been headed off by diplomacy was 15-20 years ago, when there was a deal freezing North Korean work on nuclear weapons, and then one stopping the country’s work on long-range ballistic...

the day was grey, the water unquiet... It reflects my soul these days, so well.... this is my reality.

This is a single shot just as it came out of the camera... what I find interesting is that the reflections look more real than reality - which looks dreamlike!

Taken at the end of Deal Pier at sunset. Shame this doesn't fit the assignment brief I've set for myself.

Hannah Roach - "Fantasizing Reality" Sculpture

Part of a large album showing different views of the sculpture:

Note that the album can be watched as a Slide Show [click on the "Play" icon top right].

Different variations of the photographs mostly taken with a tripod are presented. These include:

⬤ Different crops / compositions.

⬤ Photos taken using a range of different apertures (smaller apertures can produce a greater depth of field and so more of the picture is "in focus".

⬤ Panoramic views stitched together using Hugin [hugin.sourceforge.net/].

⬤ HDR [High Dynamic Range] images which have been presented using different Local Adaptation techniques. These tend to reduce contrast, enrich colours, and enable bleached lighter areas - and also areas of dark shadow - to be seen more clearly.

⬤ A couple of the images are "Focus Stacked" images [using Hugin's align_image_stack and enfuse tools] which combine a range of photographs with different focuses to improve the "depth of field" of the merged images [patdavid.net/2013/01/focus-stacking-macro-photos-enfuse.html].

Painted this before the Midland was refurbed...I named it Turning Point because I could see that Morecambe was starting to take a new direction.

This is the Jal Mahal in Jaipur. I knew it from pictures, where everything was colorful and clean. Like paradise. The reality: The lake is deep green and brown from dirt, trash lies at the edges and the traffic roars in the background. The Jal Mahal seems like a dream far away. Unfortunately this is what you see most in Jaipur and Rajasthan. You just gotta have to understand that Indians have a different understanding of nature, therefore pictures like this aren't unusual. For germans like me it might be strange but it's just a different culture.

I've been wondering a long time, if I should upload it or not, because the technique isn't very impressing here, but I've decided that the content here is more important than the technique.

This is why I rarely take photos of things around my house. All I can see is the dust and pet hair and clutter.
