Iglesia de San Pedro. Mandada a construir por los Caballeros de la Flor y Nata de Ciudad Real (Velarde, Céspedes y Treviño) en la segunda mitad del siglo XIV. En su origen, este templo estuvo dedicado tanto a san Pedro como a san Pablo y no terminó siendo construida según los planos originales al ir realizando añadidos en los estilos artísticos que se sucedían, además de por los problemas que fueron surgiendo en su construcción, lo que la obligó a tener ese aspecto de fortaleza con una baja altura en su nave central respecto a las laterales y esos gruesos contrafuertes en el lado norte. Fue finalizada durante el siglo XV y junto a la iglesia de Santiago y la de Santa María, actual catedral, formó en tiempos de la concesión del título de Ciudad a la villa (1420), el triángulo religioso de la ciudad, actuando cada iglesia como núcleo de cada barrio.

Caminhar pela Estrada Real é reviver os passos e os caminhos pecorridos pelos escravos, pelo ouro e pela história. Constituída, ainda, pelas vias de acesso, os pontos de parada, as cidades e vilas históricas que se formaram durante o passar dos homens e do tempo.

Thank you to the nicest people at Knupper's who let Dave (spincast1123) and I take pictures this morning! The current spotlight in Capture My Chicago is macro flowers. We live 2 train hours outside of Chicago and with all this crazy (wet, cold, windy AND SNOWY) weather lately, well, where ya gonna find those flowers?!!! Knupper's falls just inside Cook County, so, lucky for us, we had a great morning and I got some colorful pictures.*

Cáceres is in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. In 2013 its population was around 96,000. The walled city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The old town (Ciudad Monumental) still has its ancient walls; this part of town is also well known for its multitude of storks' nests. The walls contain a medieval town setting with no outward signs of modernity, which is why many films have been shot there. The Universidad de Extremadura, and two astronomical observatories are situated in Cáceres. The city is also a seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Coria-Cáceres.
Cáceres was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1986 because of the city's blend of Roman, Moorish, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. Thirty towers from the Islamic period still stand in Cáceres, of which the Torre del Bujaco is the most famous. The old town is a beautiful place to stroll around and we were fortunate enough to be there on Good Friday night for Semana Santa processions, a real treat. Camping Casares is on the outskirts next to the football stadium and is excellent with a good bus service to the centre.

La Santa Iglesia Prioral Basílica Catedral de las Órdenes Militares de Nuestra Señora Santa María del Prado de Ciudad Real, iniciada en el siglo XV, es de estilo gótico, aunque posee elementos anteriores de estilo románico tardío pertenecientes al precedente de la catedral: la iglesia parroquial de época de Alfonso X el Sabio. Sobre esta se construyó la catedral, la cual se terminó a mediados del siglo XVI tras la construcción de las cubiertas de las bóvedas. No obstante encontramos también elementos posteriores, de estilo renacentistas y barrocos. Lo último que se construyó fue la actual torre, a principios del siglo XIX.
