1 of the interesting things that stood out to me was how shockingly green the grass was amongst the white and grey rocks of the Badlands. Such a beautiful, yet desolate place. One day I will be back to visit.

I made my way driving and photographing up the foothills as far as I can go, just about to the tree-line. The North face of the East Spanish Peak mountain is right in front of me, about 2 miles hike in and up, then just another 3,000 ft up. up, up, to hike to the summit. Sorry, not for me!!! Maybe 20 years ago.

The air is crisp and clean up here. It's quiet except for a few mountain squirrels and birds in the Pines

An empty Road at Nelson, Nevada, USA

Looking North on Rt220 just outside of Cumberland, MD. It was a beautiful foggy morning as the sun was breaking through the clouds.

Well OK not quite to nowhere but only to the Cape Palliser Lighthouse, the road stops shortly after.

Latitude 41° 36.8’ south Longitude 175° 17.4 East

The light shone for the first time on 27th October 1897. The lighthouse is notable for the 261 steps it takes to reach it. When these steps were first built they were greeted enthusiastically as they replaced a slippery narrow path up the rock face that was especially dangerous at night.

The cast iron tower stands 18 metres high and 78 metres above sea level. The light flashes twice every 20 seconds and can be seen for 26 nautical miles (48 kilometres).

The 1000-watt lamp operates on mains electricity with a diesel generator for standby power. The light originally burnt oil as a light source and was converted to diesel generated electricity in 1954, and then to mains electricity in 1967.

The light was fully automated in 1986 and the lighthouse keeper was withdrawn.

The operation of the light is now completely automatic and is monitored by a computer and Maritime NZ staff in Wellington.

Another shot from our preview hike along the "Road to Nowhere" , a section of the Foothills Parkway that opened to traffic a couple of days later. This is above Townsend Tennessee, looking south into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This road was in the planning/ construction for nearly 40 years, as it ran into lots of engineering and funding issues. The original vision was to "ring" all of the communities that lie just north of the Smokies to connect them. Portions of the southwest and eastern road have been completed, but there are long stretches that have never been begun.

Sometimes your greatest photos are taken by an coincident like this one.

Diggin’ from my old photos….=)

This was the time when we only have XT as primary cam and back up was our old manual slr(Nikon FM10) and p&s (Panasonic z15) … Hubby was taking pix on the other side .... so I end up with two choices…=) Film or p&s.

This is a product of canon manual slr and point&shoot Panasonic. I developed the bridge personally …via traditional darkroom (meaning shake it baby and work blind ) then incorporated my dramatic clouds taken from my p&s via photoshop. Taken the same day @ the same place … Hope youll like it.

On the way back from Göttingen in the direction of northern Hesse. Spectacular weather. Heavy rain showers with less than 30m visibility in constant alternation with short phases of sunshine and magnificent distant visibility. A great show that the weather offered us today!

Funny trick of the camera. The road looks more or less even. In fact, it was a very high hill. It was really steep. It's really odd that it came out looking so flat when compared to how it really was. The only indication of how steep it really is would be how small the stop sign looks. It is not really far away in distance forward.. it is far away in distance UP. I guess the black slick road from the rain, and the cameral angle created an illusion. Kind of interesting. :)

just to remember: There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more." - Lord Byron

I miss her the less, but wilderness of Hardanger more! :)

(PS: one day I will show you what is hidden behind)

Actually... it's the road to the Sussex village of Redford (aka the Linch Road). The stormy skies were so eerily dark I just had to grab a shot even though there was nothing much to put in the shot!

The Road to Nowhere was built by Lord Leverhulme in the 1920s, when he owned the Isles of Lewis and Harris, in an attempt to improve the local economy. Starting at the Bridge to Nowhere, which spans Abhainn Gheiradha, the road, which is nothing more than a rough track hugs the coastline for a couple of miles into the moors. Lord Leverhulme's intention was to make possible a continuous road of around ten miles on the east side of Lewis to Port Nis. The road was never built and is now the start of a challenging walk to Ness across the moorland which fringes the coastline on the North East of Lewis.

I captured this scene whilst driving through Stang Top moor near the Yorkshire Dales. I really liked how the stark weather had a lining of light below, and how the road surface afforded a bit of light reflection in the shot.

We have rented a little cottage on a farm for our weeks holiday. The entry driveway was a picture in itself. The car is not as keen on it as we are.

This morning view of Lake Fontana was taken in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's complicated but if you'd like to learn about the relationship between Lake Fontana and the 'Road to Nowhere' (actually, it abruptly ends...in the middle of nowhere) follow this link. www.greatsmokies.com/gsmnp/road-nowhere.html

"Road to Nowhere - Battle in the Sky"

Woman walking on a road through fields on a foggy day somewhere in the Taunus Mountains in Germany near Idstein.

The weather forecast for Saturday, our second day on the island, was poor but we still made the effort to get to Garry Beach near Tolsta hoping for a hint of a sunrise colour. Needless to say it didn't happen but the beach was stunning and there was some nice diffused light that encouraged us to stay.
