Sunday after doing some minor touch-ups on that paper plane peice, me and fluke went further down the road and improved this RIP Moganshan peice as the wall is set to be destroyed by the end of the year.
We placed our cans side by side, sorted out what we had and how we could mix it then by backgrounding the piece below we where able to paint these two simple bubblesimple letter pieces with brown rubble fill to symbolise the breakdown of the wall. A nice way to chill as the weekend was coming to a close.

It is with great sadness that I learned that long-time friend and noted rail photographer Dave Augsburger passed away yesterday afternoon. I find that as I process the photos that I post here, I think more about the friends that I was with as well as circumstances and incidents that accompanied the outing than I do the train itself. Dave comes to mind frequently. Beside photography, Dave and I shared interests in history of the Lehigh & New England and other anthracite railroads, prewar American Flyer trains, and Pennsylvania Dutch (German) culture and language.
Here, in happier days, Dave and I were out for the day, and had gone in futile search for an infrequent Conrail train that served the cement mill in Evansville, Pennsylvania, With the day coming to a close, we decided to stop by the Wanamaker, Kempton, & Southern in Kempton. Seeing an opportunity, I had the most prolific photographer of the Lehigh & New England pose next to one of the WK&S’ L&NE gondolas. Dave is now with many of his contemporary friends who have passed in recent years, including Dick Samsel and Neil Shankweiler. I will miss Dave and treasure the many memories of him for years to come.

In Aztec mythology, Iztaccíhuatl was a princess who fell in love with one of her father's warriors, Popocatépetl. The emperor sent Popocatépetl to war in Oaxaca, promising him Iztaccíhuatl as his wife when he returned (which Iztaccíhuatl's father presumed he would not). Iztaccíhuatl was falsely told Popocatépetl had died in battle, and believing the news, she died of grief. When Popocatépetl returned to find his love dead, he took her body to a spot outside Tenochtitlan and kneeled by her grave. The gods covered them with snow and changed them into mountains. Iztaccíhuatl's mountain is called "White Woman" (from the nahuatl iztac "white" and cihuatl "woman") because it resembles a woman lying on her back, and is often covered with snow. (The peak is sometimes nicknamed La Mujer Dormida ("The Sleeping Woman".) Popocatépetl became an active volcano, raining fire on Earth in blind rage at the loss of his beloved.

I've posted this shot before but wanted to share it again after learning that Sudan, the world's last male Northern White Rhinoceros passed away. Meeting Sudan was one of the great privileges of my life. It was a moment tempered by the realization that he was the face of extinction, though. RIP, Sudan. You were an amazing ambassador for your species and for conservation as a whole. I will never forget you nor the lessons you taught us.
Well, not quite. But I was walking along Maiden Lane this morning (after discovering the fact that the queue to get in the Skandium warehouse sale at 10:00am was absolutely impossible for me) when I suddenly felt gravity towards this alley, Lumley Court , WC2. It runs between Maiden Lane and Strand. This narrow alley smelt so Victorian, so Matthew Macfadyen (oops, forgive me for dribbling over the keyboard).
07-13-2016. We suffered a tragedy late yesterday on the reddirt hill. My long-time backyard bluebird Daddy II was killed by a roadrunner. Originally constructed as an attempt to fill a highway gap, the pile of old crushed cars have been wired together to help prevent erosion on the sandy hill during storms. The cars are known as the Catstair Rip Rap or Detroit Rip Rap, constructed in the 1960s.
