Riding down the schuykill expressway in the backseat of my dad's rusty plymouth Duster around 1982 or 1983, listening to him sing along to the Clash's "rock the casbah", i peered out the window and saw this near 30th street station, the letters "r-a-z-z". Changed my life and the lives of thousands of other philadelphians forever. RIP old head...your name will never be forgotten in the city of philadelphia.

I decided I would expand the definition of fence to include this makeshift rip fence. I needed to rip a 2x4 and while I have this table saw it does not have a proper metal rip fence that helps keep the cut straight and true. As you can see, I fashioned a temporary fix using an piece of 2x4 and a couple of clamps to keep it in place. It worked out well as you may see the results. HFF
Two miles of the former Great Northern Railway in downtown Kalispell, Montana, were ripped up over the summer of 2021. A trail will soon replace it. See KalispellRailroad.com for more.

The news we have been dreading has arrived. The DNA tests came back positive and the remains found in crocodiles were those of our friend Scott.
My heart is aching for his family. He was a lovely husband and father who lived life to the fullest. He was only 44 years old and leaves behind his loving wife, daughter 11 years and son 7 years.
We are at a loss to know how this happened to a man who had been brought up in the bush and the only logical explanation is that he went into the river to save one of his beloved dogs.
This photo is of one of his dogs taken when we stayed with him and the family during our trip last year.

Found out early morning that one of our friends had taken hid own life.
I hope he has found peace.

Info: Swimming is possible when the water is calm as strong rip currents and undertows occur frequently. Though public nudity is illegal in Hawaii you will often see nude sunbathers here.
It is with great sadness that I learned that long-time friend and noted rail photographer Dave Augsburger passed away yesterday afternoon. I find that as I process the photos that I post here, I think more about the friends that I was with as well as circumstances and incidents that accompanied the outing than I do the train itself. Dave comes to mind frequently. Beside photography, Dave and I shared interests in history of the Lehigh & New England and other anthracite railroads, prewar American Flyer trains, and Pennsylvania Dutch (German) culture and language.
Here, in happier days, Dave and I were out for the day, and had gone in futile search for an infrequent Conrail train that served the cement mill in Evansville, Pennsylvania, With the day coming to a close, we decided to stop by the Wanamaker, Kempton, & Southern in Kempton. Seeing an opportunity, I had the most prolific photographer of the Lehigh & New England pose next to one of the WK&S’ L&NE gondolas. Dave is now with many of his contemporary friends who have passed in recent years, including Dick Samsel and Neil Shankweiler. I will miss Dave and treasure the many memories of him for years to come.

Tại sao trời lại quá tàn nhẫn đối với 1 đứa con gái như mày? Một đứa con gái mạnh mẽ chịu đựng tất cả... mày không nói nhưng qua cách chat với tao, tao hiểu :)... Thôi thì hãy yên nghĩ nhé :)... Mọi ng yêu mày và đang khóc vì mày đó....RIP !

I've posted this shot before but wanted to share it again after learning that Sudan, the world's last male Northern White Rhinoceros passed away. Meeting Sudan was one of the great privileges of my life. It was a moment tempered by the realization that he was the face of extinction, though. RIP, Sudan. You were an amazing ambassador for your species and for conservation as a whole. I will never forget you nor the lessons you taught us.
