Summer 2018 3rd leg: We'd planned a few weeks in southern Colorado, then wised up and went to Utah instead.
June 21: The day's agenda: The Crater Lakes Loop Trail, a six-mile (supposedly) hike to an alpine lake surrounded by "bold rock formations".
La Maison à la Vierge noire ("Dům U černé matky Boží") est l'œuvre de l'architecte Josef Gočár qui l'a conçue en 1911-1912 pour le marchand Frantisek Josef Herbst pour accueillir son magasin au rez-de-chaussée et au deuxième étage tandis que le premier étage était occupé par le Grand Café Orient. maison cubiste unique sert de nos jours d'annexe à la Galerie nationale de Prague pour ses expositions permanente et temporaires sur le cubisme mais accueille toujours le Grand Café Orient. Elle tire son nom de la vierge noire qui orne un angle du bâtiment et provient d'un des bâtiments baroques situés auparavant à l'emplacement de la maison. Il s'agit d'une copie, la statue originale est conservée dans la Maison à la cloche en pierre sur la Place de la Vieille Ville.
The House of the Black Madonna ("Dům U černé matky Boží") is the work of the architect Josef Gočár who designed it in 1911-1912 for the merchant Frantisek Josef Herbst to accommodate his store on the ground floor and on the second floor while the first floor was occupied by the Grand Café Orient. This unique cubist house now serves as an annex to the National Gallery in Prague for its permanent and temporary exhibitions on cubism but still hosts the Grand Café Orient. It takes its name from the black virgin which adorns a corner of the building and comes from one of the Baroque buildings previously located on the site of the house. This is a copy, the original statue is kept in the Stone Bell House in Old Town Square.

Voy buscando los ojos de una torre
alzada con oscuros pensamientos,

la asedian nubes que le son coronas,
como césped le besa el pie mi fuego.
Dentro me elevo, sin que nunca acabe
de escalar por su médula esa cima,
en donde he de gozar de una presencia
por la que crece, se dilata y sube
este confuso y vertical anhelo.
A veces dudo si hallará sus flores
tanto secreto humor aprisionado:
linfa que quiere pétalos, no puede
entre cortezas conformarse muda.
Bajo el azul derramará verdores
tan obstinada aspiración de cielo
y, a cada canto de ave, en la espesura
responderá una estrella con su brillo.
Aves, lunas, manzanas y luceros
llenarán de sonrisas los cristales
de las cintas del agua que, en el prado,
murmuran y equivocan sus caminos.
La sierpe abrazará de nuevo el tronco,
hombre y mujer se sentirán desnudos,
ángeles guardarán con sus espadas
los dinteles de luz y, otra vez fuera,
amargo llanto para los mortales.

These horses eat everyday, whether you ride them or not...wise words from this buckaroo buddy who shared my love for horses, but appealed to my practical side as well. He'd spend hours, horse and rider, spinning figure-8s in the field, just because it was good fun, and he knew his horse like some folks know their TV remote. Another hero, but I can't remember his name...
