was watching a documentary about the life of the painter J.W. Turner while processing this, couldn't help myself :)
L'édifice est constitué d'une enceinte polygonale, presque circulaire, difficile à dater. Celle-ci intègre par endroits un parement en opus spicatum. Plusieurs ouvertures, semblables à des archères, sont visibles en partie haute.
La tour, à la construction plus soignée, est bâtie sur un plan carré. Les parties subsistantes sont quasiment dépourvues d'ouvertures. Elle est constituée d'un rez-de-chaussée d'où il est possible d’apercevoir le départ d'une voûte en plein cintre qui le couvrait. Le rez-de-chaussée communique avec le premier étage par une ouverture dans la voûte. Le premier étage, également voûté, s'ouvrait vers l'est par une porte.
Le porche austère ouvrant l’édifice côté ouest est du début du 12e siècle. Il se compose de deux étages. Le rez-de-chaussée, voûté en arête, s’ouvre par trois grandes arcades à double rouleau en plein cintre. L’étage, actuellement inaccessible et obscur, était une ancienne chapelle haute voûtée en berceau longitudinal qui s’ouvrait sur la nef. Sa fonction était de contrebuter les voûtes de la nef et il s'agit alors de la dernière partie de la construction. Les ouvertures et l’escalier qui donnait accès à l’étage n’existent plus. Le portail sous le porche présente un modeste décor roman, sculpté de façon assez archaïque. Le tympan mutilé montre le Christ en Gloire dans une mandorle entre deux saints nimbés, probablement les apôtres Pierre et Paul. Les colonnes, surmontées de deux chapiteaux avec des lions affrontés et deux corbeaux avec des atlantes, soutiennent le linteau. Les pentures en serrurerie sont également de l’époque romane.
