some great aunts; we reckon it's olive and hilda
my very first attempt at photo restoration, trying to teach myself how to use photoshop (version "elements 4") - all comments appreciated, but i'd (obviously) prefer ones that are vaguely constructive rather than completely critical of my failings!
all editing was done using the clone brush, meaning it was pretty slow & painful - so if there's a quicker / easier way to do it then i'd be very grateful to hear about it......
after cloning out the worst bits, i used a fairly gentle (15%, i think) sepia photo filer because the top & bottom halves seemed to be fairly badly matched. without wanting to repeat myself too much, this is my first attempt at this sort of thing so everything was based on entirely undecatued guesswork!
[i've just added the higher resolution original scan & the cleaned up version of this photo, in case anyone wants better quality images: original & restored ]
Bassein Fort - the church there is currently under restoration
Built in 15 something by the Portugese as the bastion of their power in western India, Bassein was the centre of trade to and from Portugal.
When the Portugese gave away the 7 islands that form Mumbai as Dowry to the British - little did they realise that it would sound the death knell for Bassein.
Today it is a sleepy little townlet - just rising from deep slumber over the centuries

A photo from our family album I recently repaired
Original was scanned in
Process
- replaced colour used to match the faded section to the darker ones
- used levels and gradient map to convert to black and white
- used layer masks with colourize to add colour to image
- added a layer to the top to take away the harshness of the colours
All done in Elements 5
Every April 100 ONDA members gather to work on a restoration project, dance, drink beer and get caught up on "all things ONDA". This year our restoration project involved installing 15 beaver dam analogues in Pine Creek and using juniper trunks to protect plantings from browse.

Restoration of www.flickr.com/photos/cybrwlf/4585752102/.
My first restoration. Used Photoshop CS3 and Capture NX2 to fix creases, tears, and color damages. Replaced original drape background with a more modern portrait background. Darken suite, hair, and eyes for more formal and dramatic appearance.
