here, the rescue swimmer (center)--who you probably saw a lot of in the news following hurricane katrina-- is lowered down to the water on a cable where he will strap himself to the cadet/victim and the two are pulled back up to the helicopter
the winds made from the helicopter blades are 110-120 knots (aka hurricane force winds), which explains the waves in the beautiful black pasquotank river
they put me in a helmet, a flight suit, some gloves, put a little harness/leash/strap around my waist and let me dangle my head and camera out of the chopper to take photos.

Stopped for just a second to have my son take a quick snapshot of our third fawn rescue so far. Our dogs chase deer off our property and the only time the deer do not run from them is when a doe has a baby fawn she is protecting. So when we saw a deer chasing our dogs yesterday we knew there was fawn somewhere. Sure enough this little guy/gal was hiding under some Cedars as our dogs and the mom where chasing each other. We move the fawns across our fence line to our neighbors with no dogs and sure enough mom and baby are gone 30 minutes later. I am sure it will be back to eat our roses, yuccas and other goodies we plant when it gets big enough to jump back over our fence.
37263 is seen here in sweltering heat approaching Bewdley Tunnel, having rescued 46045 after it failed just outside of Bewdley station on the 11:25 Bridgnorth - Kidderminster. The working is seen here around 45 minutes late — a commendably quick rescue.

Story: While walking on the beach about to take pictures of the extraordinary sunset today, I come upon a FDNY helicopter trying to rescue a drowning kite-surfer. In a mere 30 minutes afterwards, the place was filled with people, cops and FDNY, most of them waiting in the boardwalk. The whole rescue took about 2 hours due to the extreme winds and strong tides. Quite an experience...

Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team on exercise with HM Coastguard's new Sikorsky S-92 helicopter team that took over SAR ops from Royal Navy's HMS Gannet 177 in Jan 2016.
The new helicopter is a quite a bit bigger than the old Sea Kings that it replaces and it's full of the latest bells and whistles making SAR ops safer for all involved. I'm sure they will be a familiar sight in the skies from now on.
She's not at all sure about the new kitty kingdom that I assembled for her... but she's learning that treats will be fed here...
