Sparta sits on the western bank of the river, and the east bank is called East Sparta, Little South, The bottoms, or Old Town by locals, and was the site of Sparta till 1912, after a flood /fire forced it to be relocated to the west side of the river.

High Space Turtle Cannabis is one of many companies owned by G.D. Enterprises, which is owned by George Dallas “G.D.,” who served for seven terms as county commissioner (1991 to 2022). He is one of the few former and current county commissioners who have kept the county relatively cannabis retail-free since it became legal in New Mexico on June 29, 2021. However, given the amount of money involved, An G.D. has never been known to pass up an opportunity to make money. With High Space Turtle Cannabis, being a Retailer, Producer, and Manufacturer based in Apache (in the neighboring county and county seat of Apache), it was only a matter of time before a branch opened here.

Linda Petdar is his granddaughter and the daughter of G.D’s oldest child, Katy. Linda is married to Chad Petdar, the Chief of Staff at the University of Mid-New Mexico.
