On Sunday Jan 28th 2024 about 2:32 PM .Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Sergeant Butch Soto , Deputy Brady Munoz along with New Mexico Livestock Board Inspector Tammy Garcia , County volunteer Fire and EMS Station 1 ( Fort Hazzard ) and Hazzard Range Community Health center EMS along Penn auto repair & towing was dispatched to report of UTVs vs livestock crash on Dusty Turkey rd near Fort Hazzard . Sheriff’s office Lieutenant Jeff Bartly told Herald that a group of about 22 UTV riders hit Ranchers moving cattle along Dusty Turkey rd . He noted one UTV rider was hurt and two people on horseback were critically hurt. Also many cows were killed or injured . Charges are pending ..
Last he noted that many rds like Dust Turkey that leads to ghost town of Dust Turkey are public rds but ,it is open range so watch for livestock and people, always use caution

On this Late Sunday Morning, August 11th,2024. We see off-duty Hazzard Range County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Dolly King and her husband off off-duty Eagle Lake State Park Ranger Joe Jr King, dropping off her aunt Sally. Sally reminds Dolly how she would like to see a female Sheriff of the county before her time on earth is up. Dolly laughs and says she is still thinking of running in 2026, but “ let's get through this crazy election and school board next year”.
Sally waves to her good friend Diane Gonts and Daughter Trisha . Who both just left sunday service at Hope church Diane is tell her granddaughter Trisha who is visiting from out state how Sparta and the county as whole is changing with changes at KRTK radio and The Hazzard Range Bulletin and General store that was sold late last spring to Molly’s Market a local regional Chain and building is going under big changes. Diane says she is missing the way the area was ….
Little further up the street. Ruth Montoya is being helped into her son’s truck. She tells Gary how she likes all changes, and way too many are stuck in a rut, like their Pastor Gordon Demark, who does not favor a lot of changes happening. Ruth goes on to say that for the 48 years (1970 to 2018 ) she worked as the Sheriff’s office Administrative Secretary, she saw a lot of changes, many she didn’t like at first, some she still doesn't care for, but many she has liked. As they pull out onto 1st street, she reminds him with that, “Don’t forget I told Robert Snow you help him with his campaign signs. “
Robert, who is running again for the District 5 county Commissioner seat currently held by Frank Padilla, who ran on growing the county. Many feel he has not helped anything but bringing in more tourism, which locals know is big bread and butter for the county, but wish more focus on other industries of the county that hurt, agriculture being one of them. Robert, who retired from the Sheriff's office at the rank of Lieutenant after the 2012 budget cuts he is afraid the county is setting itself up for a fall again. So through his hat in for another shot at being county commissioner, this is his second try first was in 2014. He hopes Nov 6th has a better outcome this time around.
The scene takes place in Sparta, the county seat.
