While cleaning out my car a week and a half ago, I took this bad boy out. It's been there since...well, I think I've actually had it since my first Civic, and it transferred over.
I never grew up with Mario; I was a Sonic kid. But as I grew older, I stopped picking sides, and I like them both, but Sonic holds a special place in my nostalgia centers. Yes, I have more than one.

It begs the question: If this is progress, what was it like before?!
This is literally the other side of the tracks.
Sadly, there were blocks upon blocks of this same kind of ruin. A couple of kids rode by on their bikes and we asked why the city didn't tear them down. They said it's because they are waiting for all the chemicals to go away first.
Sounds like a great place to live and play.

Duke Children’s held a VIP Reception with Jon and Marcelle Scheyer with a Private Practice with Duke Men’s Basketball on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Cameron Indoor Stadium and in the Champions Club. The event was part of promoting the fourth season of Duke Children’s Charity Stripe Challenge. Patient Ambassadors, Philanthropy Ambassadors and Leadership Council including Ann Reed, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, and John Paat, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality and Safety, were on hand as part of the experience.
Duke Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Scheyer gave a team overview and season outlook speech. Scheyer answered a half dozen questions from VIPs, signed memorabilia for the VIPs, and had a photo taken with each VIP. The highlight of the event was the actual men’s basketball practice where the fans got to see the team practice and then join them on the court to get autographs.
This year’s Patient Ambassadors are Bella, Harper, Macon, and Violet. Violet was unable to make the event.
Bella is 9; she has Mosaic Trisomy 8, a chromosomal disorder, and is seen in numerous specialties across Duke Children’s; she loves dance and gymnastics. Bella’s big brother Gio, 10, is her biggest cheerleader and an enormous Duke Children’s supportive. He and Bella raised $11,000 for Duke Children’s last year through their lemonade sales!
Harper is 11; She’s seen in oncology and recently finished treatment for leukemia; She loves Taylor Swift, her horse and her dogs, and Duke Basketball!
Macon, will be 10 in November; He has Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. He loves science, math, and learning about outer space.
Violet is 13; She is seen by the cleft and craniofacial clinic. Violet loves to write and draw and is a published author; she was recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.
What are your thoughts on this head and body combo? Do the skintones match fairly well or is it way off? Can't really tell myself :P Thanks!
My friend Roger was trying to get a shot of it, but it kept landing on his head.

Some promising news: Just spoke to editor David Remnick, who told me that, according to two Israeli military officials, the poet Mosab Abu Toha, who lives with his family in Gaza, has been released.
Over the weekend he had been detained by the IDF (for no evident reason) and was questioned somewhere outside Gaza in southern Israel. The officials said he will be back in Gaza by the end of the day at the latest.
We hope Mosab will be able to reunite with his family and we hope to hear from him soon.

We are deeply concerned at the news that poet Mosab Abu Toha was taken away from his family by Israeli Defense Forces at a checkpoint in Gaza. According to Diana Buttu, a lawyer in touch with his wife, it occured this morning while the family was trying to cross the Rafah border from Gaza into Egypt. At the time, Mosab was carrying his three-year-old son when the IDF ordered him to put down the child and raise his arms in the air. Mosab was then separated from his family and taken with about 200 other men.
Mosab's brother, in a Twitter/X post, explained that the American Embassy had sent for the family. They now know nothing of Mosab's whereabouts.
We are calling for the international community to demand the release of Mosab Abu Toha, and all hostages and prisoners in Gaza and Israel.
CEASEFIRE NOW!
Mosab Abu Toha is a Palestinian poet, scholar, and librarian who was born in Gaza and has spent his life there. He is the founder of the Edward Said Library, Gaza's first English-language library. City Lights published Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear, his award-winning debut book of poems, in 2022. His recent writings from Gaza have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Atlantic, and elsewhere.
