A few months ago Warholian had the pleasure of visiting artist Brenton Bostwick at his Marin County studio. The sophistication and quality of Brenton's work immediately caught our eye, with forms being created out of driftwood, bone, and other found objects. Bostwick's sculptures oftentimes focus on musculature and skeletal forms, and in doing so often take on a surrealistic and sometimes eerie resonance with our own "flesh-and-blood" humanity. His work brings to mind German artist H.R. Giger, only this art seems to literally breathe at times - adding to it's visual draw, and dark beauty. We sat down with Brenton after an hour of perusing his large studio space, to question this intriguing artist about his craft...

At NeoCon in Chicago, they had these displays which asked different questions about collaboration, working within groups, etc., and then they had markers that people could answer those questions however they wanted. Majority was graffiti but there were a few actual answers on them.

What is behind the door, is it a lost hatch from LOST, is it?? I can assume its some sort of utility shed for the water-works dept. its located near a local creek/watershed... if you have any light on this please shed it.

Finally, a question mark butterfly opens it's wings for me. So pretty inside, such a dull exterior. This was my other shot of the thirsty butterfly.

question: An inanimate object that best represents you.

There's always more to a person than what you see on the surface. When asked to describe one's self with just one word, most often, the word would either be "complex" or "complicated."

Humans are dynamic creatures. They're always changing. What you are today may not be the same as what you were 2 years ago or 2 years from now. But however you might change, you still retain a core of your personality deep down. You just have to peel off the layers.

Mrs. Wilson - Richard Laxton

This is part of my unedited thoughts series.

5/10

This story falls foul of the biopic trap - it fails to tell a good story.

There are all the things required to make a great story but it just misses the mark and that's because they stick to the facts.

The death of Mr. Wilson unravels all the lives of what we quickly learn are his many wives. None of them knew of the others.

The lead Mrs. Wilson then decides to investigate her past with him. This quickly leads him to go from being a saint to the opposite.

The truth is hard to see and as soon as she grabs hold of something firm it vanishes.

Ultimately, he is a scoundrel with no real answers or closure.

Throughout the series we go on the journey with Mrs. Wilson believing him to have been some sort of spy.

In the end, it does seem like this was correct and the impersonation of an officer also appears correct. How much of the rest of his, and everyone else, story is true or not is hard to unravel.

Each answer that we were given opened up more questions. There was a nice shot of all the family members at the end.

Just trying to get a feel for where people could use some help. I figure I might as well share some of what I know. I started a tutorial a while back, but never got to finish it. I'd like to change that.

Kauai is without question Hawaii's hidden gem, and one of the most remarkably gorgeous destinations in all of the Pacific.

I have to give a huge thank you to the Kauai Visitors Bureau for hosting, and to McNeil Wilson Communications for putting together a brilliant itinerary.
