In partnership with NOAA's Guam Community Coral Reef Monitoring program, Marybelle Quinata, the GCCRM Coordinator and I facilitated an outdoor classroom training with high school students selected as Reef Ranger Conservation Corps members on coral reef ecology, the methods for gathering data, the importance of our coral reefs in our economy, culture and the surrounding environment, the negative and positive impacts, climate change, and spreading awareness. Then we conducted an in-water training on the data gathering methods and species and substrate identification.

These were responses to Frontier fates that student had to answer very quickly. Time was allotted for group discussion and decision making and then as a group they were to write a paragraph about what they chose to do and why they made that decision. These two paragraphs met me expectations because they are a paragraph in length and they answered the question of what they chose and why they chose it.

Tech Coaches helping patrons with basic digital literacy. Sessions take place at multiple library branches regularly and off site locations in partnership with Phoenix Family. For example, we hosted a Smartphones with Seniors series at 2 low-income senior housing complexes during which we provided a basic overview on smartphone settings to help seniors get more comfortable with their devices. Then in breakout sessions, we helped individuals with their specific questions. At the branches, we are stationed at designated tables weekly to help patrons with what ever tech questions they have.

"What is it exactly that you do Mary?" is a question i get asked almost everyday. Well, what you see here represents a good 70% of what I spend a LOT of my time doing. Meeting and talking with various stakeholders of whatever program possibility I happen to be looking into. Not super exciting, but a huge part of my job.

In the age of social media, not snapping a pic of your perfectly plated meal is like finding a unicorn at a horse race—it's pretty rare and might make people wonder if you're really living in the 21st century. People are literally choosing their meals based on how well they'll fit into a square photo frame with a filter. Restaurants have caught onto this trend faster than a cat on a laser pointer, turning their dishes into Instagram-worthy works of art. They know that a picture is worth a thousand likes and potentially just as many dollars. So, when you don't take a photo, it's like you're saying, "No thanks, I don't need any extra likes today," which, let's be honest, sounds as odd as a dog walking on two legs. It's all about the visual appeal; after all, we eat with our eyes first, and if the camera eats first, can you even say you've dined out?
