8x10 Print RC Pearl- Found a roll of Ilford Pan F+ and this leaf. Leaves have caught my attention this year for some reason. I would rather be photographing people but I don't think anyone can read my mind when I ask in my head if I can photograph them. Maybe soon I will verbalize my intent.

Rainy weather for the entire week has made getting out a shoot quite troublesome. In an effort to make anything happen with the 8x10, I found a small break in the weather that was long enough to make some quick family portraits. There's a lot of downsides to making portrait work with large format, but one big advantage is being able to change where your depth of field lies with camera movements. In these portraits I made use of a great little trick featuring some forward tilt of the front standard.
In making this rainy day portrait, I also made a video of the process and discussing the idea of photographic output. You can check it out here:

Cedar Falls has got to be my favorite place to visit in the Hocking Hills region. Today I'm heading back down there with my 8x10" Tachihara field camera and some Ilford Delta 100 B&W film. Last week we tested it in my developer of choice, Pyrocat HD and found a working ISO of 125. With those results we're putting it through its paces in gorgeous Southern Ohio.

Up until recently, I'd forgotten how much I enjoy making environmental portraits. The addition of the Canham 12x20 to my kit has forced me to consider different ways of composing and representing people in their space. One such portrait that I've been wanting to make forever is of my good buddy Mr. Tariq Tarey. I made an entire video about the setup, shoot, and printing that you can view here:

Actually a long exposure shot of seaside rocks in Croatia. But when someone told me the picture reminded him of rising mist somewhere in Chinese mountains I had to laugh - and agree :)
