Photographed August 2017 / Kodak 1A Autographic Jr. (1916-24) with Kodak Anastigmat 130mm/7.7 lens. Camera was re-configured to transport 120 film (originally 116 format). ILFORD 3200 rated 1000 ASA developed in PYROCAT-HD (5ml A + 25ml B > 600ml, 10min, 20*C). Negative was illuminated on a light table and 'scanned' with an iPad mini using Film Scanner app. Image 'processed' in Flickr. This combination of ILFORD 3200 / PYROCAT-HD is pure magic! Tight minimal grain pattern and plenty of punch in the negative ...shadows (zone III) packed with detail while the whites are under control and not blocked ; smooth grey scale; tones silvery and flowing. The film speed advantage over a 400 ASA film allows a smaller f stop I think the exposure here was 1/100 sec @ f 32.
Photographed October 2018 / Rolleiflex Original TLR with Carl Zeiss Tessar 7.5cm/4.5 lens. Film was ILFORD 3200 DELTA PRO metered at ASA 800 developed in PYROCAT-HD (5ml A + 25ml B > 600ml, 8min @ 20*C). Negative was illuminated on alight panel and 'scanned' with an iPad mini using the Film Scanner application. A medium grey zone V calibrstion negative was used as reference to obtain 'correct' scanning exposure. Image was processed & finished in Flickr.

When revisiting a location that is small and difficult to maneuver, finding a fresh perspective can be very challenging. One such visit presented itself earlier this past Spring, as I toured my photographer friend Mark Fohl through the Cedar Falls trail of Hocking Hills.
Broken Rock falls has a very distinctive, yet small, waterfall that's hard to work around due to its location. My previous visits made the falls front and center:

This time, however, I wanted to place the falls a little further back into their environment, and provide some scale to the rock formations in which they reside.

Really only looking for two things with this one: first, what fun could I have with camera movements (camera angled down, rear standard returned to vertical to keep trees from converging, but front standard with exaggerated forward tilt, to throw the top 2/3 of the frame out of focus; and front swing, to shift plane of focus roughly along the front of the open shed; the result is some weird geometry on the shed roof, exaggerating the apparent convergence of the roof edges). And second, how much detail from the shed interior could I retain. Altogether, I'm pleased with the result.

I just liked the lamp sticking out, but had to decide where in the frame to place it. I took three frames, as usual first look was best (IMHO).

The 2005 version of the Nikkor 35mm f1.8 is a pretty damned good lens. Out of focus areas are a bit flary though. Resolution is very good.
Yes, the Salt Point tafoni formations can get pretty alien and the exact method of creation is still under debate; but mostly you need sandstone, salt water and a lot of time. The world is more than any one of us can know, I'm glad there will always be mystery...
