One of my favorite places in all of the South to go visit is Savannah, GA. With each trip, I find myself concentrating more and more on the presence of those gorgeous live oaks so carefully preserved throughout it's downtown area.

One afternoon while Lauren was paying a visit to the Blick Art Materials, I took the 8x10 for an exploratory visit along Oglethorpe. Every few blocks, there's a new square with it's own personality and stunning live oaks. During this long exposure, I met a gentleman that worked as a health inspector. We chatted about film photography, and he gave me a short list of top-notch restaurants to visit.

While we were visiting Maine, my partner surprised me with a ferry ride to Iselboro. There was about an hour wait for the ferry, so I had a great opportunity while waiting to photograph the area surrounding the dock which was in Lincolnville, ME

I've often gazed longingly out at this expanse of reeds and waterfowl, usually heading out to further locations on the point itself. This is about halfway through the rising tide, earlier and the little island is surrounded by mudflats decorated with bird tracks; later the little island disappears completely in the slow briny swell. It was early that morning as I waited for the light to rise, and a family of Coyotes joyously howled in the hills to the left making it feel wild and remote.

Last week I made an early morning trip to Rock House, in the Hocking Hills. This was the first time I'd been there during the cold season, and I'm so glad I made the trip. Conditions were about 30 degrees colder than I would have liked, but the light snow covering frozen to the trees was a highlight to the morning.

I made a video about the trip you can watch here:

After a green Christmas and only a couple of days into an early January cold snap I didn't expect that much more than a thin crust of ice clinging to the Lake Erie shore. Instead I found ice hills taller than me extending 100 metres or so out from the usual shore line. I managed to follow the old concrete pier to get out far enough to include the slushy water in the composition, otherwise heading out onto the ice seemed too dangerous.

I guess one could say, conservatively that there are maybe 100,000 pictures a day taken of the Golden Gate. It's an icon, well placed, and even on the most blustery day, it stands as a metaphore for all that is good, strong, well designed and built.

In the presence of the bridge, 'she' somehow seems alive. The vehicle sounds clamor, rattle, and roar, echoeing across the "Gate", the mile wide span that seems preposterous to bridge. With her feet anchored on the bay bedrock and her head in the clouds of fog, misted and damp all the year long - there she majestically stands, strong and true.
