Constructed in 2001 the Reunification Arch marks the entrance to Pyongyang city from the Friendship Highway (road to the DMZ and, maybe one day, Seoul). The women supporting a map of unified Korea represent North and South Korea.

Typically, only stores have entrances on the front of buildings. Residentials entrances are always located in the back, in a courtyard or on a side street sometimes closed to traffic. I sneaked this picture from a side window at the KITC hot pot restaurant on Reunification Avenue. Even on those rare Pyongyang walks, visitors do not see the backside of buildings.

I think she was the only one I saw actually standing in a circle this time. Most of them were standing near the side of the road instead.

Looking out of the coach window, I didn't know it at the time but I'd be travelling over the bridge in view a few times over the week ahead !
Trolley buses have a big advantage over trams: they can be overtaken when they break down, which they seem to do very often.
