A recent installation of umbrellas in Southgate shopping centre, Bath. I took some when they were first installed in nice neat rows, but ended up accidentally deleting the images, so returned to take some more. Looks like they took a bit of a battering with the recent weather as they were all over the shop. Still look great though, especially against the dark grey clouds.

The morning sun cuts through the heavy fog as a mother and daughter travel across the field.

The title above is a complete misnomer, but seems to fit the image.

What you are seeing is one of the very early Los Angeles-class (SSN-688) nuclear attack submarines transitting outbound in the Straits of Gibraltar late in 1980. The old-school break-bulk merchant ship silhouetted on the horizon beyond is coincidentally doing the same thing. They are most definitely not in company or operating together.

This image was taken from aboard HMS Ardent (F184) within a couple of hours of departing Gibraltar heading into the Mediterranean, en route to the Gulf of Oman for the commencement of our participation in Operation Armilla. Seeing what was then such a modern American submarine on the surface was a novelty - no-one aboard had seen a 688 before...

The shot was looking directly into the sun and I have converted it to black and white. Scanned from a slide.

Stay tuned lads!

Here's todays little piece all done in 5 mins Fin!! ;) honest!

These graves have a metal railing all around them. I thought it was quite unusual and have never seen this before. The church, The parish of Saint Mary's in Chipping Norton.

You may or may not like this photo, its not your normal landscape shot.

The tree in full focus is beautiful, as is the surrounding countryside, but its not a natural enviroment, the field constantly changes from year to year, the hedges are trimmed, barb wire surrounds a lot of the area. There is a lot of human input, but the tree stands there proudly, enhancing the landscape and because of its beauty, its much easier for our eyes to become blind to the more ugly human touches that we find in our green and pleasant land.

For those who know me, you also know my opinion about the use of camo attire. For those who don’t and deem the expenditure of time worth the effort, check out this link: `www.flickr.com/photos/earl_reinink/5385999488/in/album-72...

Since God is no longer in control, we now bow to the whims and will of our elected officials who have deemed that social distancing is the new norm. Glad I am married! How does one date the woman of his dreams from 2 metres? Try being intimate from that distance! Good luck having kids… Darn, I am off topic.

I have seen many images on social media, people wearing masks, scarves, hankies and diapers over the face, and even one fool with a plastic bag over his head (he certainly won’t die of virus, but will probably die of stupidity or asphyxiation)!

I decided to do my part. I dug into my camo closet and came up with this solution to the shortage of face masks. It comes with many benefits. For example, yesterday I managed to slip into first place in line-up at a busy store, no one saw me. Got to the toilet paper first, bought a one-year supply, cleaned out the hand sanitizer selection, stocked up on Vodka (in the event I ran out of sanitizer). Threw a camo tarp over buggy on the way out, managed to get to truck un-noticed.

Merits of said attire:

1. Readily available at Bass Pro for just a few loonies.

2. Reversible in case one snots in their mask

3. Washable / re-usable

4. Undetectable - feel free to roam in your favored park or attend Easter service.

5. No need to do hair or make-up (that's for women, Ramen, Chuck and John).

6. Water-proof model provides airborne spray protection.

More from the archives. I had misfiled a lot of photos from 2012 and finally found them a couple of months ago. Just sorting through them now. I had forgotten about the Savannah photos. Another backyard photo...

This past week, California became the first state to ban fur trapping! Thank you to Governor Newsom for signing into law the Wildlife Protection Act of 2019 which prohibits commercial or recreational trapping on both public and private lands.

Coyotes are still subject to merciless persecution in other ways, but it’s one step forward in a wildlife model that desperately needs revision, in accordance with our modern understandings.

[I photographed this beautiful coyote last year in a coastal area of Northern California. S/he was loafing in the late afternoon sun with coyote family members, and stopped for a moment to look back at us as they moved through the tall grass and stalks.]
