On this site stands CSO-4 (Pico No. 4), California's first commercially productive well. It was spudded in early 1876 under direction of Demetrious G. Scofield who later became the first president of Standard Oil Company of California, and was completed at a depth of 300 feet on September 26, 1876, for an initial flow of 30 barrels of oil a day. Later that year, after the well was deepened to 600 feet with what was perhaps the first steam rig employed in oil well drilling in California, it produced at a rate of 150 barrels a day - it is still producing after 77 years (1953). The success of this well prompted formation of the Pacific Coast Oil Company, a predecessor of Standard Oil Company of California, and led to the construction of the state's first refinery nearby. It was not only the discovery well of the Newhall Field, but was a powerful stimulus to the subsequent development of the California petroleum industry.

Holiday Faves 6 Carols
DESCRIPTION:
The bad weather prompt reminded me of how cold it is every year at Carols in the Park. Our Aussie Christmas is in summer, but the fresh sea breeze means that all 10 000 or so people at our church's carols event end up freezing if they don't rug up. This year I brought a coat, beanie and scarf and I was lucky enough to have a selfie of myself and my parents all dressed for the weather!
Journalling
We have missed the last three Christmas Carols at Heathridge Park, so I was excited to be able to attend this year.
After the carols were rescheduled due to the unseasonal storm on the 18th of December, it ended up being on the 23rd of December. Despite the reschedule, the crowds still poured in! No doubt over 10 000 attended. Mum, Dad and Cait picked me up. We sat front and centre and loved the joyful carols, Christmas songs and fireworks. Hopefully next year the whole family will be able to come join us!

The project is developed using various pre-set text-to-image models, processing text prompt inputs. On the borderline between sensitive content and an easy slip into topics of violence, this project visualizes the depths of the subconscious of these models, excavating the influences of media and online information exchange. The quantified traces of reality and collective histories allow algorithms to generate content that recycles the past – building the spine of quasi-historical narratives – often obfuscated with prejudice and misinformation, along with the author’s personal bias. Generated outputs are presented inside a hypertext object – a tent that the audience can enter, as it were.
