Took advantage of a great deal and traded my NEX 6 for an A7 - no more crop factor (that actually prompted me to purchase the Voigtlander 21/4P (the little lens in the foreground) in the first place - so that I could have a wider FOV on the NEX 6). The one problem with the Color Skopar when used on the A7 is the magenta color cast the lens produces in the borders of the image (and sometimes almost half-way into the image). When I used the lens on the NEX6, it was easily corrected using cornerfix. On the A7, however, I have not been able to satisfactorily correct it with cornerfix or the flat-field plugin for Lightroom. It certainly doesn't help that the camera does not record the aperture in the EXIF data - information that would be useful when applying the correct correction profile in post processing. It's really unfortunate as I would really like to keep this little gem of a lens - alas it is going up for sale.
The Voigtlander Ultron 21/1.8 Aspherical (on the left) is one of two UWA lenses (the Leica Tri-Elmar (WATE) 16-18-21/4 is the other - but at $6K+ not really an option) that does not produce that magenta color cast. Of course, it is also 2 1/3 stop faster - even though there is some heavy vignetting wide open (but at f/4 it vignettes less than the 21/4P); it also has some field curvature that is very pronounced when the lens is used wide open and close-up to shoot something flat. The Ultron weighs three times as much, is three times larger and costs (almost) three times as much. The Ultron is almost as large and as heavy as the Leica Summicron-M 90/2 (on the right).
Mounted is the Leica Summicron-M 35/2 ASPH. As it turns out, it doesn't do all that well on the A7: there's corner smearing but no color shift. In November 2014, I replaced it with the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4: www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/15533248327/
While I could use the Tokina 11-16/2.8 with a with Fotodiox Nik(G) - NEX Adapter on the NEX 6 (www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/9271057515/), that option no longer exists because even at 16mm the Tokina vignettes and the images produced are quite soft in the corners. However, the A7 can now serve in a pinch as a backup to the D700 - albeit manual focus only of course.
21mm/35mm/90mm is quite a spread - usually people would opt for a 24mm instead. Or make do with a two-lens setup (28/90) - expanding it to three with the inclusion of a 50mm. I never got much use out of 50mm lenses and very much prefer the wider view of a 35mm - which is why 35mm on a DX camera almost always feels a little cramped to me.
Sony/Zeiss revealed that a Zeiss Vario-Tessar 16-35/4 OSS is going to be the next lens released in FE-mount. I have the AF-S Nikkor 16-35/4 VR for my D700 - I purchased the lens specifically for the VR and it also "caused" me to delve into FX. IF the Tessar is priced reasonably and performs at least as good as the Nikkor, then the Nikkor might be up for sale. Though I have to admit that I rather keep the Sony A7 system manual focus and with M-mount lenses only. The advantage of the small body is rather lost if I were to mount my Nikkor 28/2.8AiS and 105/2.5 Ai on it - they live more happily on the D700.
Update June 2015:
The idea of replacing my Nikon FX gear with Sony has been dropped: www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/18320884181/ and www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/18644962235/
Lastly, to round out the system, the Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical III has been added: www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/18398172096/
Update January 2017:
The Summicron 90/2 has been replaced with the Sony 70-200/4G; the zoom is more versatile than the prime lens it replaces (which has not seen much use at all). Also added the Sony FE 28/2 to have at least one wide-angle lens with AF. www.flickr.com/photos/beachwalker2007/32159772370/stats/
Update February 2017:
Upgraded from the A7 to the A7II, courtesy of Sony's instant rebate and trade-in bonus ($455 off the retail price). Was hesitating for some time but the two Nikon D300 bodies and the old Nikon AF-D 80-400 VR were only gathering dust on the shelf while depreciating daily.
Update July 2017:
Major course correction on my Sony system. I knew I wanted the Sony FE 12-24/4G the instant it was announced and was just bidding time waiting for the reviews to show whether or not the lens is going to be a good one. I had briefly looked at the Sigma 12-24/4 for my Nikons and liked what I saw but not so much the size and weight of that lens. The Sony version is definitely smaller and only about half the weight. Every review I've seen so far has given high marks to the Sony 12-24/4 so yesterday I decided to see for myself.
Gone now are the Voigtlander 15/4.5 Heliar III, the Voigtlander 21/1.8 Ultron, and the Voigtlander 40/1.4 Nokton; the FE 12-24/4G has joined the FE 28/2 and FE 70-200/4G. For the time being, this will be it for my Sony system (even though there is a major gap between 28mm and 70mm right now. It's also the end of my excursion into the world of M-mount lenses. It's been fun but once Voigtlander came out with native E-mount versions of the 10/5.6, 12-5.6, and 15/4.5 the resale value of the M-mount versions began to drop significantly. I had toyed with the idea of getting the 12/5.6 E-mount but in the end decided that the 12-24 zoom was by far the more logical and flexible choice.
One thing I have a bit mixed feelings about is the fact that I can't easily use a filter on the 12-24 (something that would also have been an issue with the Voigtlander 12/5.6). It's not that I am such a big user of filters but I generally prefer to have an clear or UV filter on every lens because a filter is a lot easier to clean than a lens front element. But for ultrawide lenses, easily adding a filter is usually not an option.
Update April 2018: Added a low-priced A7RII to the bag.
Update November 2018: Added a Samyang 35/2.8 and a Sony FE 50/1.8.
Update March 2019: Couldn't resist changing some things around - together with some spring cleaning. Traded the A7II, A7RII, Samyang 32/2.8, Sony FE 50/1.8, Sony 28/2, and the Sony FE 70-200/4 for an A7RIII ($400 instant discount and $300 trade-in bonus certainly helped) - and added a used Sony FE 24-105/4. Now my Sony mirrorless system has shrunk to those two items and the 12-24/4. If I feel the need, I can carry the Leica Apo-Telyt 180/3.4 to cover the "long end". Makes for a compact travel kit.
While the 100-400 is a tempting choice to round out the system, I am not sure I want to use something that large and heavy on a body as small as the A7RIII. To me the 70-200/4 was already not a comfortable lens to use on the A7II and A7RII and while the ergonomics of the A7RIII is slightly better, working with larger lenses still isn't all that comfortable.
November 2019: Couldn't resist the temptation when lensrentals/lensauthority offered a Sony FE 100-400/4.5-5.6 at a generous discount. Now my Sony bag contains three zooms that cover 12-400mm - the "only" thing missing now is a second body.

Prompt: Create a digital fine art in vertical-format, ultra-realistic scene based on Image 1 as the sole Base. Preserve the butterfly’s exact wing pattern, colors, textures, and body structure, as well as the flower forms and overall composition. Recreate the scene with enhanced clarity and no noise. Maintain the same wet, dewy atmosphere with sharp water droplets, crisp edges, and smooth bokeh. Render the butterfly in precise detail with its iridescent blue wings and bright orange markings, perched naturally on the soft orange-pink flower. Match the original lighting: soft diffused light from above with gentle reflections on droplets and subtle contrast between subject and background. Keep framing tight as a macro close-up with shallow depth, vertical aspect ratio, and consistent color balance. Ensure realistic textures on petals, stems, and droplets, and avoid adding new elements or altering identity, structure, or pose. Output a single ultra-realistic fine art rendition with identical proportions and refined micro-detail, consistent lighting, no artifacts, no halos, and fully natural integration throughout.

Snowy Weekend in England - Bradgate Park in a Blanket of Snow and Fog
Much of England experienced a touch of snow this weekend. Starting from midnight, heavy snowfall caused airport runways to close and prompted several warnings. While many woke up to snow-covered landscapes, others reported heavy rain, and some even enjoyed clear skies. Despite the weather, it was confirmed that the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United would proceed, though many matches in other leagues were postponed.
In my local area of Leicestershire, the morning brought thick fog and around 7-8 cm of snow covering everything. Having packed my camera bag the night before, I quickly had breakfast, cleared the snow off my car, and headed to Bradgate Park! However, upon arrival, I was met with an unexpected light sleet, and the melting snow hinted at insufficient cold to keep it frozen.
Still, I managed to capture a few shots! Two wide-angle photos showcase Bradgate Park and the River Lin partially covered in snow. My favorite little bird, the robin (or redbreast), saved the day with its generous poses. I hope the close-up shots of this curious bird, gazing at me with its black, inquisitive eyes while perched on the snow, catch your interest.
Wishing you all a lovely Sunday evening!
I've captured some unforgettable moments with my camera, and I hope you feel the same joy viewing these images as I did while shooting them.

Two warriors are engaged in an intense sword duel in front of a traditional Chinese architectural structure. The warrior on the left is dressed in a rich crimson-red robe with intricate gold dragon embroidery on the back, sleeves, and cuffs, featuring a high collar and wide sleeves. The robe is cinched at the waist with a black belt adorned with a silver patterned panel, and flows dramatically as he moves, creating a dynamic motion effect. His black hair is styled in a topknot with a golden ornament. He wields a silver sword with an ornate golden hilt, positioned horizontally as he attacks towards the right. A large, vibrant blaze of orange and red fire swirls behind his head, adding to the dramatic atmosphere and emphasizing the power of his attack. The warrior on the right wears a black robe with similar elaborate gold dragon embroidery, including a prominent circular design on the chest and shoulder pauldrons. His hair is also tied back in a topknot with a small ornament. He holds a silver sword with a gold-trimmed hilt, angled upward toward his opponent. Both warriors wear traditional black shoes with laces. The background features a grand traditional Chinese building with dark gray tiled eaves, intricate gold decorations, and red columns. Stone steps lead up to the entrance, where several onlookers dressed in black robes observe the duel. One onlooker holds a staff, adding to the ceremonial ambiance. The scene is set on a paved stone courtyard with irregularly shaped stones arranged in a grid pattern. The lighting is natural daylight, casting soft shadows and highlighting the vivid colors of their attire and the intensity of the moment. Smoke or light fog is visible, contributing to the historical and dramatic mood of the scene. The overall composition is dynamic and balanced, capturing the essence of an epic battle in a classic cinematic style.

Prompt:
The image presents a surreal and otherworldly desert landscape dominated by a large, seated, alien figure. The scene evokes a sense of loneliness, quiet contemplation, and the vastness of space.
The alien, seemingly sculpted from a smooth, metallic or stone-like material with a bluish hue, sits perched atop a rock formation. Its head is elongated and ovoid, and its body, while humanoid in general form, possesses unique, stylized features. It appears to be gazing downwards or inwards, adding to the contemplative atmosphere.
The desert itself is a mix of sand dunes and rocky outcrops. The sand is a warm, light brown, and tire tracks suggest some form of vehicular travel has occurred there. The rock formations vary, some resembling eroded mesas and plateaus, while others, particularly those near the alien figure, have a more sculpted, almost crystalline appearance with a bluish-gray coloring.
In the background, several rock spires rise from the desert floor, similar to those found in arid regions on Earth. A small body of turquoise-colored water, possibly an oasis, is visible in the mid-ground, providing a stark contrast to the surrounding desert. Sparse, desert-adapted vegetation dots the landscape, indicating some level of life exists within this harsh environment.
The sky is a clear, deep blue, and celestial bodies are visible. A large, pale blue orb, possibly a moon or planet, hangs prominently in the upper left portion of the sky, and smaller, similarly colored spheres can be seen further back, creating a sense of depth and the vastness of the extraterrestrial setting. The overall lighting suggests a daytime scene under a bright sun.
