Prompt: Doorway
This is the brick work on my front porch. I love the doorway to my house because it seems really grand and a little bit of that is the brickwork.

After my first page feeling so messy when I didn’t want it to be..and when I feel like I’m messy all the time in my art.
My first thought was I’m going to flip it and THIS will be the page I’m all contained, clean lines and shapes.
But then I said nah.
That’s not me in this expression.
And if anything, I do try to control the mess sometimes or try to cover it, try to clean it up enough that it has a purpose. Like I’m a mess but I’m deep so it’s ok.
So I went to this page with abandon.
Not with the purpose of creating a mess.
But with the purpose of not being afraid to create a mess..of creating like I crave, without any expectation of what it will be..of creating like I know I can but sometimes get in my head about.
And it felt free.
It’s a mess of paints, brushes, my fingers as the brush, water, randomly pushing the two pages together..no thought about it, only if it popped into my awareness I did it.
It doesn’t have any deep meaning.
It doesn’t have to have a purpose within the mess.
It looks kinda like my other pieces but feels different.
It’s not overworked.
It’s not held back.
It’s maybe a little messy.
It’s maybe a little quirky.
But it’s me.
I grew up around neat and clean.
Move something an inch and mom would know.
Look this way, wear this not that, appear pulled together so they’ll know you’re ok, that you fit.
Maybe this art is my rebellion.
The place I can allow myself the freedom of the mess.
And maybe through it I can accept the light and the shadow, the clean and the messy parts of myself."

What does music mean to me?
I decided to just list the reasons I listen to music in bullet point form.
I am participating in Folded Word's writing month event, called "24/7," during August. Participants spend the first 24 days of the month writing short works, then spend the final week in revisions. The second part of this entry gives more details.
I'm not required to give a central theme to the entries, but I chose the theme "Divinations" and am using a pair of dice to generate prompts. My prompt for August 23 is to write divination-themed short poetry that uses death. You can read the piece here.
Terrible Picture. But, it is the small picture of my Mother, one of two small pictures that I have on display on my house. Small pictures because she was the best Mother a person could have, my best friend and the one person in all the world who loved me without condition. She was my hero.I lost her to cancer and to this day, I still cry when I think of her. Small pictures so I can have tear free days.
