outdoor rock fireplace -- top one is using line work to define texture and shapes; bottom is less line work and uses color to inform textures. Even though i think the top one looks more defined and crisp, I enjoy the feeling of looseness and implying the textures more than trying to really be specific about them. Im learning who I am as an artist :-)

Prompt #18 from Janel of "Run with Scissors" Journal prompts

Journal Prompt 18: Music is one of my most favorite things ever!! It translates emotions that I can't even imagine putting into words. I love it. Today I want you to create a playlist of some kind. It can be your summer playlist, your July playlist, songs from your wedding day, or favorite songs of all time :) This one will be another fun one to look at down the road :)

This is some of my favorite songs on my summer playlist. :)

2010-05-25, acrylic and collage in my Art Journal. Inspired by Jeannine's class Mining the metaphor and the prompt "Map your heart".

What is the prompt [holds you back?]

Things I wrote down: gel medium, 7 gypsies, more Jenni Bowlin, Paintsticks, Silver Bella and other Artsy Travels, more on-line classes, designer Fabrics, lots more threads, different kinds of glue, sealants, healthy supply of gessos and decoupages. I Zentangled the dollar and cent stencils(I did not fill them in with pencil) and added the peace stamp because it looks Zentangle-y and also because of the word peace(I like how in some places it is crisp and in others it is blurry-I'm not always happy with taking that 5th or 6th spot in my hubby's budget plan). The bigger journaling spots are from a plant tag and the smaller one is traced from a chipboard frame after pieces are punched out. I traced them onto the back of a pink legal size paper that was tea bag stained and than glued to smooth corrugated cardboard. There's even an old list of stuff over on the left from 2004 or 2005.

Words on the other tag are: Holds me back? I tend to not want to use my stuff. What I do~ make lists of stuff I want and mark it off as I go along, use my stuff anyway, being thankful for what I do have, pray.

I've been saving these photos assuming a taste prompt was coming. :) This is a page about our favorite restaurant that is no more. :( I documented a few things - who we'd go with, how sad we are that it is gone, and what my favorite dish was. The extra journaling is hidden on a tag labeled "More". Fun! I'll be posting more closeups on my blog today.

Most items are from the Studio Calico Block Party kit, except for some journaling cards by We R Memory Keepers, "You're My Favorite" stamp by Elise Blaha Cripe, Veneer heart by Studio Calico, and Wood Chip Arrow by Freckled Fawn. Twine is also unknown.

We will deliver it promptly

I didn't allow enough space for the "e", oops

My front door -- This lesson is very helpful to me - I am constantly plagued by wonky, misshapen structures when I draw. I find measured setup helps a lot in getting the core lines established and its easy to build upon from there. Thanks Liz!

A kind of scrapbooky page in honor of my brother.

Prompt #5 from Janel of "Run with Scissors" Journal prompts

Journal Prompt Number 5:

We are all obviously bloggers right, or else you wouldn't be here :) Even if you don't have a blog, I know that you read them.

This page is dedicated to your favorite blogs!! What are they? Are there any blogs that you can't go a day without checking?

I don't really follow blogs but these are the two I've gotten into recently :)

Prompt: Something gold. The letters AND the words fit!

wear a warning label, what would yours say. Writing prompt. teacher resource.

Prompt DALL-E:

Create a widescreen portrait of a young, slender girl with her face faintly visible, composed entirely of black and dark gray tones, without any light gray or blue. Emphasize dramatic and wild accents of gold dust as the central focus and primary source of light. This gold dust should subtly illuminate her features, offering an artistic, high-fashion look. The image should radiate mystery and intrigue, with the gold dust creating a stark contrast against the dark backdrop. Include large expressive dark brown eyes and a thin, artful line of gold dust across her face, ensuring no blue hues are present.

Natty's prompt was to base a journal page on summer movies that are looking forward to coming out soon in the cinema. I'm not a big follower of movies though; I tend to stick to what I know or watch everything 6 months later when its out on DVD (of course with a few exceptions). So I decided to do it on my favourite movies instead :)

So my main favourite movies are:

-The Nightmare Before Christmas

-Corpse Bride

-Coraline

Can you tell that there is a Tim Burton/Stop Motion theme going on here haha.

I wanted to create a journal spread without using paint for once so this was an experiment. I'm on the fence with the turn out though. I like it and I don't.

**Oh and did anyone notice that I forgot the first rule of image transfers? The images are all back to front hehe

LOAD Day 1. Prompt today was to find a picture that inspired. The prompt arrived right at midnight, and tired and lazy I went to the pile of pictures I printed almost 2 years ago. I love this picture, it's not pretty, but it sums up a period in our lives. At the time it was too raw, but time has passed and perspective has been added. Sometimes it's great to be so far "behind".

BTW, in general I'm a 12x12 scrapper, but when I signed up for load I decided that I'd give 8.5x11 a try - (A)because it's easier to just scan and go, and (B) I bought an album a while ago and it has about 4 layouts in it. It feels awkward today?? Hopefully I'll get more at home with it. :)

I promptly sat down shifting my auburn hair behind my shoulders. I glanced to my left and saw the overcast shadow of the man that was about to determine the rest of my life.

“Blue.”

“Sir.”

“Why do you think you’re here?”

I stared at him. His grey sulking eyes sent chills running through my arms.

“I think there has been a mistake…Sir.”

“Do you now?”

I watched his body shift in his chair as he tried to look unmoved but yet attentive.

“Tell me…Blue..that is what they call you, yes?”

I nodded.

“Blue…that’s an odd name, wouldn’t you think?”

“It’s my name. I don’t see what’s so odd about it.”

He smirked. His laugh lines connected and made a noticeable crease.

“Blue is certainly unique; very unique indeed. Tell me now Blue, why do you think there has been a mistake?”

I stared at him again. My gaze was held too long as I could feel my eyes turn to glass.

“I’m not bar coded.”

He traded the position he was in to a more alert gesture. His body slowly got closer to the desk that was dividing us.

“You… you are not… bar coded?”

“No sir.”

I said this too quickly. I could tell he noticed.

“May I?”

The man reached for my arm. I uncovered my sleeve to show ivory skin glowing towards his hand.

“Why… CHILD TELL ME WHY!” There was a loud bang on the desk and a quick fist at his side.

I quickly stood up with him. We both looked into each other’s eyes for a solid 5 seconds.

“I should have you arrested! HOW DID YOU GET AWAY WITHOUT THE BAR CODE?”

“I AM NOT PROPERTY SIR! NOW IF I MAY ASK YOU, SO KINDLY, SIRRR DO YOU ALWAYS TREAT A LADY AS SUCH?”

I could see a cringe hit his face for half a second.

“No. I do not treat ladies this way. Not at all. It seems though; I’m dealing with no lady.”

I saw him open the drawer. An older sun damaged hand reached in and retrieved an old friend. It was black and pointed towards me. I heard him move his hand gently across my friend and made a tight clicking sound. He had cocked it and I was about to experience the wrath.

“Goodbye blue.”
